Chapter 4
“Nolan’s POV
I plodded into my office restlessly. It’s been two days since I divorced Ashley and sent her out of my house, but why do I feel uneasy about it?
“What’s wrong, baby?‘ Zoe’s voice broke into my thoughts.
“Nothing really,” I said absentmindedly.
She shook her head as she rose from the office sofa and approached me. Concern and worry were evident in her eyes but it was nothing like Ashley’s.
Shit! I was comparing them again.
“You’re not okay” She noted as she placed her hands on my cheeks, pulling me in for a kiss.
I inadvertently avoided her lips as I removed her hands from my face and stared out the window. I had never felt so empty in years. Everything just feels not alright.
“I’m leaving! I told her gruffly as I started towards the door.
She held onto my clothes. I’m coming with you.”
I was driving at a maddening speed but Zoe didn’t mind at all. Her eyes were glued to her phone as she beamed excitedly, typing away at her screen.
She was beautiful in every standard, with a great figure. She was everything a man would ever ask for. but why do I feel like she wasn’t enough for me?
I knew I was probably going crazy because I had been yearning for her all these years, desperately trying to get Ashley out of my life but now that she was out of my life, I didn’t feel as excite as I did before.
I turned at the intersection and drove down the road that led to oe’s house. She must have noticed it as she yanked up her head in confusion.
“Nolan, why are you driving to my house? What’s wrong?” She sounded alarmed.
I shrugged indifferently, glanced at her then back at the road. “I need to be alone, Zoe. I’m fagged out and I need to get things out of my kind.”
She grabbed my hand. “Exactly why you need me. What’s making you disturbed? Talk to me!*
I suddenly felt pissed at how she insisted but I managed a smile understand that you care, but I still need time to reflect on what happened between Ashley and me. Go home tonight. Is that too much to ask?”
“Wait! Don’t tell me you’re feeling guilty about the divorce?” She exhales sharply. ‘No baby, she deserved it. Everything was all her fault. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
I shook my head. “No, I’m just you know, she acted so strangely. She accepted my rejection quickly and even signed the papers without trying to beg me. It’s so unlike her!”
A frown creased her forehead. ‘Don’t tell me you’re thinking of ntacting her?‘ “No, I just think she might have something under her sleeves Something huge!
She scoffed. That won’t be possible even if she really does. It’s like she’s still alive

Confusion slammed into my mind. “Huh? She’s not alive, how? Why are you talking about it?”

She shrugged and looked away as though she was trying to hide something. “I don’t know– I mean, she was sent out of the house by my parents, and knowing she doesn’t have money on her, she can’t afford the pack’s airport. That leaves only one option, she traveled through the crescent woods. We all know the woods belong to rogue wolves, so–”
“Get out!” I suddenly growled, surprising even myself.
It was my wolf, Slayer. He was struggling to work his way out as he breathed angrily in my head, fanning me with the heat o his rage.
Zoe had her eyes wide as though they were about to pop out of her socket. She pouted as she folded her arms around her chest..
“Why are you acting this way? I thought we were sleeping over at my place! What do you mean I should get out?” Her voice had risen to an octave.
I exhaled deeply. “Don’t raise your voice at me, Zoe. I just told you I need some time to get my head together. We won’t be spending the night together. Come down now.”
“Don’t give me that!” She snapped as her eyes flared red. “You are obviously acting like this because of your ex–wife. Why fee bad now, when you pushed her out yourself?*
My rage was slowly burning its way out as I took deep breaths. “I’m sorry, okay? Just give me time to collect my thoughts.”
She let out a dry laugh. “Suit yourself!”
She climbed out of the car, slamming the door shut behind her as she walked towards her house without turning back. Thirty minutes later, I was at my house and restlessness settled over my heart. I paced the living room that suddenly seemed so empty. I couldn’t explain the reason, but Ashley’s words kept echoing in my mind.
“I’ll go out of your life now, Nolan. But know that you will forever regret selling out my loyalty”
I found myself wondering what exactly she meant by those words. My legs inadvertently moved towards her room—well, not her room anymore.
I sat on the bed, feeling overwhelmed by her familiar scent that tantalized my senses beyond measure. Why did I never realize she smelled this nice?
Out of the corner of my eyes, I glimpsed something white lurking around the corner and I stood to pick it up. The next thing I saw on it was a shocked gasp tearing out of my throat.
There it was, boldly written on the front page. Pregnancy Test Report!
My hands trembled as I saw Ashley’s name on it. Shit! That was what she wanted me to regret. She was pregnant with my pup!
What have I done!?
I fished my phone from my pocket and immediately dialed her umber. My heart thudded loudly in my chest when she wouldn’t pick up. The line rang continuously with no response.
Suddenly, Theard the front door squeal open and I sprinted to the living room. My gaze fell on my beta. Xander, covered with blood and looking so feral like he had just shifted.)
The thick stench of blood and bare filled the air. A feeling of dread enveloped me as I approached him.
“What’s wrong?”

He wiped blood from his face. “It’s the rogues, they invaded the woods and killed innocent pack members! We’ve been trying to fight them off since. We tried communicating with you through the mindlink but it couldn’t reach you.”
My mind emptied. If he was talking about Crescent Woods, then the worst thing could have happened to Ashley.
And my pup!

My face paled as I dialed Ashely’s line again, but the moon goddess was my guide. I was going crazy as different thoughts competed for attention in my head.
None of them were good. Fear gripped me as I thought about Ashley being in danger. Did I just push her to her death?
I dialed her number frantically but the line went dead after ringing continuously.
My lips quivered as I subconsciously balled my hand into a fist. I glanced at Xander and he had a confused look on his face.
“Alpha, what’s the problem? What should we do with the rouges we—”
“My ex–wife has gone missing!” I choked and he raised a confused eyebrow.
“Dispatch the pack warriors into the crescent woods and find my ex–wife now!”
