Chapter 53
“Nolan’s POV
I took another step towards Zoe, the tension in the room rising to our throats and thick enough to be cut with a knife. She was staring at me, a mix of fear and boldness in her eyes. She was confident that I wouldn’t hurt her, but she was wrong, I was desperate enough and I couldn’t trust myself not to do anything stupid.
I looked down at her neck and could not see the pulse in her that, rapid and frantic. She wasn’t too confident after all.
“Fine.” She finally said, her voice shaking. “I’ll tell you, I’ll explain She added, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Good,” I said, taking a step back. “Start talking”
She took another step back and her back was now resting against the door. I wanted to take my sit, but I couldn’t move from the spot where I stood, not until I had heard what she had to say
“I tried to help, Nolan.” She began, staring at me. “I tried to help, but you kept pushing me aside. I know It was my fault right from the start. I can’t deny that and I can’t say that it wasn’t, but wanted to show you that I could help, but you wouldn’t let me.”
I took slow breaths, my arms crossed as I listened to her. “What did you do to help, Zoe? Who did you ask for help?” I asked softly, waiting for her to respond.
Zoe sighed and brought her hand forward, still staring at me. “I asked Alpha Xavier for help.”
The words from her mouth hit me like a bullet and I almost lost my footing. It didn’t come to me as a surprise, but maybe I was just hoping that she was going to say something else.
I rubbed my hands through my hair, trying to process how stupid she actually was. “Xavier? Are you fuvking serious?” I yelled at her, pacing through the room like my life depended on it.
“You know he hates me, Zoe. How could you possibly think that he would have your best interest at heart, how stupid are you?”
Zoe just stood there, like a mannequin, staring at me like she had lost the ability to think.
“He did his best, Nolan.” She finally said, lowering her eyes.
I scoffed in frustration and walked towards her. “His best?” I asked, laughing through the pain and realizing that she was just a dumb person. “What do you mean by he did his best? Are you stupid or something?”
Zoe moved to the side, marinating a distance away from me. “I thought he could help, he said he would help.”
I slowed down and sat on my desk. “You really believe that, Zoe I asked her, hoping for one moment that she could be rational and reasonable.
“He’s married to your foster sister, Zoe. He’s married to Ashley, The same sister I divorced to be with you! How couldn’t you see how bad of an Idea that it was?”
“Don’t blame me for all of it, Nolan.” She shot back suddenly, pulling her back away from the wall.
I frowned slightly, annoyed and confused at the same time. “What the heck?”
“Every time I tried to talk to you, Nolan, to explain what my plan was, you wouldn’t listen.”
“That’s not an excuse, Zoe. You should have known better. We hate each other so much, you couldn’t even think of that.”

Chapter 53
I wanted to stay angry and probably hit her a few more times, but I needed a chance to fix myself before all of this would break me. Zoe wasn’t dumb, she was smart and there was no way she could have forgotten that Xavier and I could not be friends. She knew my problems, she knew all my enemies and Xavier was one of them.
“I just wanted to help. I thought maybe he could give me an idea of what to do and he did. He listened to me and that’s why I said that he did his best to help ”
“You don’t know what’s going on, do you?” I asked, standing up from the desk and walking towards her. She raised her hand as if to protect herself from me, but I wasn’t going to hit her again.
“Xavier has taken over the company, it’s theirs now.” As much as hurt me to say that, I had to.
“You gave him access to buy all our shares, you helped him convince the shareholders to sell, and you gave me access to my share. How could you not see that he was using you?”
She remained still, silent like a cold and frustrating night. She was scared, but one thing that she wasn’t and I knew it was that she wasn’t sorry, not genuinely.
“Did you sleep with him, Zoe.? Did you sleep with Xavier?” I asked her softly, my eyes not leaving her.
“If that’s what you want to know, then the answer is no. I did not. But I know you slept with that secretary of yours and you’re trying to replace her with me, just like how you replaced me for my sister.”
“Shut the hell up!” I snapped at her, pressing her against the wall
“Shut up, Zoe. You have no idea what you’re talking about. You messed up and you should accept it and not try to play the victim.”
“I already told you that I-.”
“Nothing has changed, Zoe,” I said, cutting her off. “You haven’t changed, and I know what to do about that.”
“What are you going to do to me, Nolan? You can’t kill me, the pack will find out and It will be the end of you.” She threatened.
I took a deep breath and smiled. “You really think so? You put your trust in someone who was willing to stab you in the back with the first chance that he got. I trusted you and it didn’t mean anything to you. You shouldn’t even have the boldness to speak.”
“Just let me help us, Nolan.” She pleaded, her eyes staring into mine.
“You already did,” I said softly, releasing my grip on her. “You already helped, plenty,” I added, turning around.
I picked up my phone from the table and dialed Xander. It rang for a while and then he answered.
“Come to the mansion, I need you to do something for me,” I said sharply, ending the call before he could ask what. I turned my attention back to Zoe who was still looking at me and I could see the fear in her eyes.
