Chapter 13
13
“Wendy, 137; Cheryl, 135; N–Nathan…’
Layla paused for a moment, as if the machine had run out of oil.
She already knew Nathan had scored third in the class for Euranic. But calling his name so early for this subject was something Layla wasn’t quite used to.
“Nathan, 133!”
As soon as Layla finished announcing Nathan’s Euranic score, the classroom went silent. A few seconds later, the room exploded into chaos.
The shock was even greater than when Nathan had previously scored a perfect mark in math and came second in science.
Nathan had always been strong in math and science. While his performance this time was better than usual, it wasn’t completely unexpected.
But the fact that he scored 133 points in Euranic was too shocking. He usually just barely passed that subject. It was truly unbelievable!
The whole class turned to look at Nathan, eyes wide with shock and disbelief.
The realization hit them hard. His total score was now over 650 points, 70 to 80 points higher than the top–tier university admission cutoff.
That meant any elite university, except maybe Northsdale University, was now within his
reach.
As Nathan walked up to collect his papers, he could feel the envious stares of his classmates. Honestly, it felt pretty good.
In his previous life, he was envied and praised by many after achieving success. But those people had ulterior motives. It was unlike the pure admiration he felt now.
High school students didn’t have the same complexities as adults. After all, they didn’t care about wealth or background. They measured success purely by scores.
Family background might draw some attention, but it didn’t earn the respect of high school students. In fact, even some rich kids who got into school through connections were still looked down on for their poor grades.
After handing out the Euranic papers, Layla gave Nathan a special mention and took the opportunity to inspire the class with a little pep talk.
“Nathan scored a total of 658 points, making him first in the class and seventh in the entire grade. This shows that it’s never too late to work hard! Let’s give him another round of applause for his excellent results!”
Applause filled the room again. Without a doubt, Nathan was now the most admired student in the class.
“This doesn’t make sense. It’s just not possible. How is Nathan suddenly this good? How does he even dare to be this good?”
Justin, still holding on to his last shred of pride, was the only one in the class not clapping. His face twitched. Inside, he felt like a chemical reaction was happening. His jealousy was bubbling up.
Cheryl’s gaze was equally complicated. To her, Nathan seemed to be glowing with brilliance
now.
Meanwhile, Oscar just stared at Nathan like he was looking at a stranger.
Nathan couldn’t help but laugh. “Ossie, what’s with that look?”
“Nate, you actually scored 650 points?”
“Correction, it’s 658 points.
“Damn…”
“Feeling a bit jealous?” Nathan teased.
think
“Well, yeah, a little… I mean, with that score, you can basically choose any elite university other than Northsdale University! Damn, you’re impressive. Got a school in mind? Lexford University is pretty good, or maybe Ashton University.”
Oscar felt a mix of envy, but mostly, he was happy for Nathan.
“Lexford University? Ashton University? Come on, Ossie, think bigger.”
“What, you’re aiming for Northsdale?”
Oscar pondered. If Nathan could bump up his score by another dozen points, he might just make it into Northsdale University.
But Nathan’s math and science scores were likely maxed out, and there wasn’t much room left to improve his Euranic score. The only subject with any potential left was Hanvian, but that required consistent effort.
With only a month left until the college entrance exams, how could he improve that much in
such a short time?
“I haven’t considered Northsdale University. It’s too far from home. And us Spicarians aren’t really used to northern food.” Nathan paused, raising his eyebrows.
“But whether or not I go to Northsdale University has nothing to do with whether I can get in. My goal? To be the guy Northsdale wishes they could have but can never get,”
Oscar was speechless:
He felt Nathan’s show–off vibes were getting stronger by the minute. Sometimes
