Chapter 10
In the afternoon, a news alert popped up about PA University’s centennial celebration. She checked the date–it was indeed PA University’s birthday. The hashtag was trending, not only because it was a top university, but because it was their first centennial. Many distinguished alumni were invited.
Ashley scanned the articles, her hand trembling as she recognized familiar faces. Memories flooded back. Her heart ached. If she hadn’t gotten. married right after graduation, she might have been one of those honored alumni.
She closed her laptop, then drove to PA University. It was afternoon. Many guests were gone, but the campus was still bustling. She walked aimlessly, then a familiar voice rang out.“Ashley?”

Ashley smiled faintly, “Good, just… getting a divorce.”
Tim was surprised. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.”
What are your plans? Will you come back to the company?”
I was thinking about it, but…”

Tim didn’t know her concerns. He said earnestly, “Ashley, the “I…” She couldn’t explain. The VR field was evolving rapidly. She’d been away for six years. Even if she returned, she might not keep up, let alone lead the industry again.
It had been years since Tim last met Ashley. He noticed the difference between her now and her confident self years ago. He’d never imagined Ashley would feel self–doubt. He knew little about her marriage to Chase but it must had something to do with it. He said sincerely, “It’s okay
to
be behind. Your talent is unmatched. If you want, it’s not too late to start again. Don’t forget, you were our teacher’s best student.”
