Chapter 5

There was a moment of blankness. Then she remembered it was 2AM here and 8 AM in LA, breakfast time for Chase and Sam. Since Sam moved to LA, she called him every morning around 8 in the morning. Busy with work, she’d set an alarm to ensure she wouldn’t forget it.
When he first went there, Sam missed her a lot, always wanting to talk. But as time passed, and with fewer visits from her, their conversations became more distant, and his attitude grew colder.
The alarm was unnecessary now. But she couldn’t help but keep it, unwilling to let go.
A wry smile touched her lips. After thinking for a while, she deleted the reminder, turned off her phone, and went back to sleep.
On the other side, Chase and Sam had almost finished breakfast. Chase knew Ashley would call them every morning. He didn’t pay much attention to it due to his frequent business meetings and social events. He noticed there was no phone call today, but didn’t think much of it. He just headed upstairs to get dressed up.
Sam had noticed that too. Sam had felt his mother was becoming increasingly bothersome; he wanted to avoid talking to her. Assuming she was too busy to call, he grabbed his basketball and dashed out.
Maria followed.“Sam, it’s sunny outside, why don’t you go out later?”
He ignored her and headed towards the court. He’d gotten a break from his mother’s calls; he didn’t want to be ‘nag again. Ashley finally had a good sleep.
