Chapter 6
When James heard that Amy was no longer in danger, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Jessica had been worried sick these past few days, but she had finally fallen asleep.
For some reason, James felt an emptiness in his chest.
Unconsciously, he took out his phone and turned it on.
He had expected that, after these two days of forced silence, Lily would flood his phone with calls. But when the phone powered up, he froze.
There wasn’t a single missed call.
He was surprised to open the chat with me, only to find it hadn’t been updated since two days ago.
He found my message. “Please answer the phone, Sophia’s in the hospital. She needs urgent care!”
James glanced at it with disdain.
He thought it was just another jealous tactic.
He didn’t even bother to reply.
A strong sense of unease suddenly surged in James’s heart.
Just as he raised his hand to dial my number, he overheard two nurses talking in the hospital corridor.
“Did you hear? The most famous Dr. Young from the neighboring city came to rescue Sophia. It’s all thanks.to Miss Murphy’s
connections.”
“Yeah, otherwise this young girl’s sudden emergency could have been fatal…”
Hearing familiar words.
James abruptly stood up, furrowing his brow as he stopped them and asked.
“I heard you mention Sophia and Miss Murphy?”
The two nurses exchanged a look.
“Yeah, Mr. Dean, you probably don’t know. A couple of days ago, when you mobilized all the city’s medical resources, there was a little girl named Sophia in our branch who suddenly had an emergency and needed urgent rescue.”
“At first, everyone thought we didn’t have enough doctors, and the girl wouldn’t make it. Luckily, Miss Murphy pulled some strings and got a doctor from the neighboring city. Fortunately, everything turned out fine.”
James’s face turned pale, inch by inch. “Are you sure the girl’s name is Sophia?”
“Yes.”
The nurse nodded firmly, noticing his troubled expression. “What’s wrong, Mr. Dean? Do you know that little girl?”
Chapter 6
In recent days, James’s mobilization of all the city’s medical resources had made his domineering CEO status well–known.
Even the hospital nurses were envious. It was a shame he was already married so young, with a wife like Jessica and a daughter as fortunate as Amy.
James collapsed to the ground and sat down. “Sophia is my daughter.”
The nurses couldn’t believe it and laughed.
“Mr. Dean, don’t joke around.”
“Everyone knows your daughter is Amy. Even the reporters said you adore your wife so much that your precious daughter is more like her mother.”
“People even joke that they hope to be reincarnated as your second child…”
James suddenly looked up.
“Who said that?”
The nurse pointed to Jessica, who was sleeping in the hospital room. “Of course, it’s Miss Martin. She said you and your wife are very loving, and you’re a’daughter slave‘.”
“Yeah, Sophia almost died, and her father didn’t even show up. How could she possibly be your daughter…”
Each word made James’s face look more and more displeased.
He almost immediately rushed into the hospital room and slammed the door shut.
Jessica woke up, looking at him with blurred eyes. “James, what’s wrong?”
James looked at her with a dark expression. “Did you tell the reporters and medical staff that you’re my wife? That Amy is my daughter?”
“Also, I didn’t have time to investigate Amy’s allergic reaction. How did the reporters suddenly come to the hospital to report
on this?”
Jessica’s eyes flashed with guilt, and she awkwardly smiled.
“Maybe it was an accident.”
“After all, they heard Amy calling you’dad‘ when she was in pain from the allergy, so they naturally assumed I’m your wife.”
