Chapter 3
Bronson did not explain why he appeared at the hospital.
I didn’t ask either.
It seems like we really just happened to meet each other, and then we had a meal at the restaurant.
From beginning to end, he remained calm and showed no sign of guilt.
I was cutting the steak, but my hand just couldn’t exert any force.
When I looked up, I found myself staring into Bronson’s deep eyes.
In those eyes, it seemed as if there was hidden eternal ice.
The next second, the ice melted and brought a smile. “I’ll help you.”
“Are you still feeling uncomfortable? Do you want to go to the hospital for another check–up?”
The knife scraped against the plate, making a sharp sound.
I shook my head and Bronson placed the plate in front of me.
“Okay, try it. I remember you loved the steak from this place when you were in college.”
I put a piece into my mouth, but I could no longer taste the flavor I used to have before. In fact, there
was a hint of bitterness added.
Bronson’s phone suddenly lit up, and he picked it up to take a glance. His eyes softened in an
instant.
But the next second, he put down his phone and switched it to silent mode.
“Why didn’t you answer?”
Bronson raised an eyebrow and said softly, “I’ll accompany you until we finish eating, the rest
doesn’t matter.”
I tightened my hand holding the knife, how could that phone call be unimportant? It was his wife’s phone call, the mother of his child.
I ate absentmindedly, but Bronson was very interested. I clearly felt that his mood was good.
Was it because he was enjoying the process of getting back at me? Enjoying the process of deceiving
ine.
Itilted my head back and drank a glass of water, suppressing the bitterness in my heart.
“I won’t eat anymore, please take me back.”
Chapter 3
When he got home, Bronson didn’t even enter the house before leaving. He said there was something urgent at work, but I knew he went to the hospital.
When I passed by the ward just now, I saw Nathalie’s name on the screen on the wall.
She was hospitalized.
I touched my belly, and in three days, this life would turn into a pool of blood.
I packed my luggage, intending to clarify things with Bronson when he came back.
Whether you hate me or seek revenge, at least let this relationship end clearly and unequivocally.
But these three days, Bronson did not come back.
When I called, he also used the excuse of being on a business trip to evade me.
I didn’t notice Bronson leaning over Nathalie’s stomach until I passed by her ward.
At that moment, I realized that nothing mattered anymore. There was no need to expose his lies, nor was there any need to ask for a reason.
Just leave quietly.
The day I had the surgery, Nathalie was also wheeled into the operating room.
I saw Bronson pacing back and forth at the end of the corridor, his face filled with anxiety with
every step.
He clasped his hands together and prayed for the child’s safety.
But even today, his another child was gone.
Even, he knew nothing.
I lowered my gaze and left a letter on Nathalie’s sickbed.
Afterwards, I carried the suitcase and went to the airport.
I thought, this time, it was truly our farewell with Bronson.
I sat in the waiting room, my stomach still hurting.
As the ringing phone sounded, I weakly answered it.
Just as the call connected, Bronson’s gloomy voice came through.
Veronica, you told me, what does ‘goodbye for good” mean?”
“Did you want to walk away again?”
Chapter 3
2/5
I remembered that at the end of the letter, I left this sentence.
I remember the day of my college graduation, when everyone was preparing to embrace a new
future.
Bronson was also preparing to welcome us in the future.
That day he was very excited, and his voice trembled as he spoke.
He said, “Veronica, we would have a house, we would have a cat, and we would have two children.”
He was speaking incoherently, and as I kept watching, I started laughing, and as I continued laughing, I ended up crying.
I didn’t want to burst that bubble, not at all.
So, I spent the whole day with him, fantasizing.
That day, he drank a lot, got very drunk, and while he was sleeping, he was still muttering about our
future.
The next day when he woke up, he couldn’t find me no matter how hard he tried, and only found the brown envelope at the bedside.
In that letter, it seems like I also wrote a sentence, “I will never see you again in this lifetime.” But who knew, three years later, we met again.
Even then, they were together again.
I opened my mouth and felt a momentary tightness in my chest.
Bronson’s heavy breathing came in bursts, one after another. I knew, he was getting impatient.
But I didn’t know that he was still angry and hadn’t yet enjoyed the true satisfaction of getting back
at me.
I was still angry when I discovered his conspiracy beforehand.
Perhaps, both are possible.
“Bronson,” I said softly, my voice choked with emotion.
Actually, when I saw that marriage certificate, it really hurt, hurt so much that I could hardly
breathe.
“Later, I found out that Nathalie was pregnant, and I became even more caring.”
Congratulations, your revenge was successful. Now, can you let me go?”
After a moment, Bronson sneered, “So you’ve already figured it out, huh? How boring. I was
planning to tell you after you gave birth to our child.”
“Veronica, you have also been married, so you shouldn’t mind, right?”
“What kind of mood are you in now?”
