Chapter 4 

“Lori!” 

In the distance, a heart–wrenching scream echoed from Jaidyn. 

The water surface surged violently as a figure leaped in. 

I struggled to swim upwards, and in my line of sight, Jaidyn swam towards me. 

I reached out my hand, but only saw him grabbing Lorena beside me and passing by me, saving her. 

Originally, he was calling out for Lolly. 

I smiled bitterly, on the verge of losing consciousness, when I was finally pulled up by another kind–hearted person who had jumped into the water to save me. 

When I woke up, I saw Jaidyn tightly holding Lorena in his arms, and the woman was crying her 

heart out in his embrace. 

Jaidyn had a terrified expression on his face, and his eyes never gave me even a hint of attention. “Don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. Uncle is here, I will definitely make sure nothing happens to you!” 

I forced a bitter smile and wanted to leave, but Lorena suddenly pointed at me and burst into tears, saying, “Uncle, it’s all my fault… I shouldn’t have instinctively pulled her down when Aunt intentionally used a wheelchair to hit me… It’s all because Lorena herself had poor balance… sob… 

Jaidyn’s expression froze, and his gaze towards me was clearly filled with blame and disapproval, but he spoke up for me, “It must have been just an accident, it’s good that both of you are okay this 

time.” 

Lorena froze and gave me a dissatisfied glare because she didn’t get the desired outcome. 

However, a while later, Jaidyn grabbed me in a corner where no one was around and said, “Lori, Lorena is innocent. Even if you have grievances in your heart, you really shouldn’t have a conflict with a younger generation, let alone engage in such harmful actions!” 

I knew it, how could he possibly believe me? 

I sneered, “Isn’t it funny that I, a person in a wheelchair, am causing harm to her, a flexible and able–bodied person, as you say?” 

He frowned and said, “Regardless of whether it was an accident or not, I don’t want to see the same 

thing happen again!” 

It seemed that Jaidyn realized that he had spoken too harshly, and he added, “After all, Lorena is the apple of our big brother’s eye. If something really happens to her, neither you nor I can explain 

it.” 

Chapter 4

“Okay, understood.” 

I was too lazy to argue anymore, but Jaidyn was stunned. 

He suddenly realized that, since I was rescued, he seemed to have not cared about my situation. 

He reached out his hand, and at that moment, not far away, Lorena was crying out in pain. 

Jaidyn turned on his heels and instinctively ran towards Lorena. 

I returned home alone and sorted out all the tokens, diaries, and various photos that Jaidyn and I 

had exchanged over the years. Then, I burned them all to ashes. 

I also received my portable crutches, so it would be more convenient to leave. 

Lorena popped up a new update on her Instagram: “Uncle is way too worried about me! I just choked on water, and he booked the entire hospital for me to get checked… So many doctors surrounded me, I almost developed social anxiety!” 

The familiar voice of the man in the video came out, saying, “Be obedient and get all the checks 

done, so that I can feel at ease.” 

In the evening, Jaidyn came back very late. 

When I came back, I was still accompanied by Lorena. 

“The little girl stayed at home alone, feeling scared and needing a few days to recover. I brought her 

home to stay for a few days.” 

Anyway, soon this won’t be my home anymore, and I don’t have anything to object to. 

Jaidyn smelled the scent of ashes in the air and asked, “What is burning? Why is there such a strong 

smell?” 

“It’s nothing, just burned some unimportant things.” 

Jaidyn’s face darkened. “Don’t cook these at home anymore in the future, the smell is bad for your health, little girl.” 

I nodded, anyway, everything had already been burned, and there was no need to burn anymore. 

Because I was feeling uncomfortable with a fever, I went to bed early. 

Late at night, a thunderclap exploded outside the window. 

I woke up and instinctively wanted to hide in Jaidyn’s arms. 

Ever since the car accident, I have had a stress response to loud noises. 

These three years, every time it was Jaidyn who held me tightly, telling me that he was there and I

didn’t have to be afraid anymore, that’s how I managed to get through. 

But this time I missed. 

Jaidyn got out of bed and put on her coat. “The little girl is most afraid of thunder. I will go and 

check on her.” 

I shook my head and laughed at myself, realizing that even now, I still subconsciously relied on 

Jaidyn. 

Watching his departing figure, I stood up and placed the signed divorce agreement on the table. 

He took out his phone and dialed a number, saying, “You can come pick me up now.‘ 

As I walked past the first–floor guest room, leaning on crutches, I heard Lorena’s sobbing from inside, “Uncle, you clearly still liked me, didn’t you?” 

“I could tell that you never let go of me! Don’t go, what about Lorena?” 

Lorena embraced Jaidyn’s neck and leaned in, pressing her lips against his. 

Jaidyn dodged a few times, but in the end, he couldn’t resist and grabbed Lorena’s back of the head with one hand, deeply kissing her. 

The lightning outside flashed, reflecting the clear image of the two people’s lips and tongues 

entwined. 

The unbearable pain in my heart overwhelmed me, and I decisively turned around. 

Walking out of the villa gate, I got into the car that had been waiting for me and drove off into the distance amidst pouring rain.

The next morning, Jaidyn woke up by Lorena’s bedside. 

He glanced at Lorena, who was still asleep, and couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her forehead. 

The sun was shining brightly outside the window. After all, he had left Lori without any reason for one night. He was thinking in his mind about ways to apologize and make amends with her. 

Just order the Cantonese–style morning tea that she likes the most. 

Lori was picky and only food with fresh and light flavors could catch her eye. 

Jaidyn picked up his phone intending to order food, but the assistant’s call came in just then, “Mr. Weston! Something… something bad has happened!” 

“Last night, the lady traveled by car and encountered a mudslide on the way. The car, along with the people, was swept into the lake!”
