Chapter 3
I carried his child through agonizing hardship, yet he gave his only love to another woman.
As I approached labor, he was preparing to walk down the aisle with someone else.
“Baby, are you in pain? Don’t look at your phone. Let me massage you.”
Yancy noticed my discomfort, hastily took my phone, and placed it facedown on the bed. His hands gently pressed against my round belly, moving in slow circles.
His gaze was so focused, as if he weren’t the one who had betrayed me.
I endured a wave of sharp pain until it finally subsided.
Then, I heard his sharp intake of breath.
I opened my eyes slightly, and under the blanket draped over him, his hand had frozen in place.
“I lost my balance…. almost fell,” he explained, his face slightly flushed.
This man, who once had eyes only for me, now allowed his mistress to openly tease him in front of me.
How many times had it happened when I wasn’t watching?
I used to believe I was uniquely cherished, oblivious to the truth.
How foolish. How ridiculous. How pathetic.
He shifted his hips slightly, subtly rubbing against the hand hidden beneath the blanket. Acting as if nothing had happened, he pressed a soft kiss to my cheek.
“Baby, I’m here with you. Get some sleep. When you wake up, we’ll be there.”
I was nothing more than a spice in their twisted game.
I silently studied his face–still as gentle, meticulous, and affectionate as ever. Not a single trace of guilt.
My heart ached so much it felt suffocating. Exhausted, I shut my eyes.
He assumed I was drifting off.
Not long after, he tugged the woman out of first class.
Chapter 3
The cabin was empty, making their hushed voices all the more distinct.
“Why are you here? Didn’t I tell you to switch shifts?”
The girl’s voice was sickeningly sweet. “I missed you.”
Yancy’s tone was colder. “Xena, didn’t I tell you not to cause trouble in front of Ana?”
“But I really missed you. Don’t you miss me too? Well.. something else does…”
“Wait”
“I don’t want to.”
The sound of rustling intensified.
Yancy’s breath grew heavier.
“So disobedient… Do you need to be punished again?”
Xena’s moans slithered into my ears like a venomous snake, laced with Yancy’s increasingly labored
breaths.
Right here, in public, they entangled themselves, unrestrained.
I never knew Yancy had such an uncontrollable, depraved side.
I buried my head under the blanket, covering my ears as tears streamed down my face.
But those sounds had wings, forcing their way into my ears.
Each one was a slap across my face, burning hot.
The pain that had just eased surged back, crushing me until I could barely breathe.
I didn’t know how long it lasted, but eventually, silence returned.
Yancy came back, checked my face, then carefully climbed into bed and wrapped his arms around me from behind.
He nuzzled into the crook of my neck, his voice tender.
“Ana, baby, I love you.”
The scent of recent indulgence still clung to him.
Chapter 3
The embrace that once made me feel so safe now only filled me with nausea.
Throughout my check–up, Yancy was tirelessly attentive, holding my hand the entire time. He occasionally pressed soft kisses on me, whispering for me to relax and not be afraid.
When I frowned, he anxiously asked the doctor to be more gentle.
To any outsider, it would seem like he loved me to the bone.
The doctor smiled and said, “I’ve heard that our brilliant Go champion is madly in love with his wife. Seeing it in person today, the rumors are absolutely true.”
“Mrs. Smith, you’re truly lucky to be loved so completely.”
I curled my lips into a faint smile.
“Love has an expiration date. What looks fresh now might already be spoiling.”
Yancy panicked, as if I had said something dangerous. He immediately raised his hand and swore,
“Baby, how could you say that? Don’t you trust me? My life revolves around two things–Go and you. I
will love only you for the rest of my life.”
Seeing my expression remain indifferent, he hurriedly took out his phone.
“Call my assistant. He’s always around when you’re not. You pay his salary–ask him anything. He’ll tell you the truth.”
I chuckled. He was his assistant. Easily dismissed at his command.
What was there to ask?
Seeing that I didn’t react, he solemnly lifted his right hand.
“I, Yancy Smith, swear–if I ever betray Ana, may my career be ruined, and may I die a miserable death.”
A mocking smile curled on my lips.
Men’s vows were nothing but words, effortlessly spoken.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Please don’t scare me.”
“If something is bothering you, tell me. I can explain everything.”
“If I ever cheat on you, may I be hit by a car the moment I step outside! May I be childless! May my parents perish!”
Chapter 3
“I can’t live without you. Please… have mercy on me…”
I simply stared at him in silence.
