Chapter 14
As Allison’s thoughts wandered through past memories, she snapped back to the present and assured Cindy, “Don’t worry, I’m heading back to my hometown in a couple of days and won’t be coming back.”
Cindy was caught off guard by how easily she convinced Allison to leave. It seemed almost too easy, leaving her momentarily speechless.
Was Allison really that easy to shoo away? She didn’t even ask for anything in return.
Something felt off, but Cindy couldn’t quite figure out what it was.
Allison glanced at her watch and said, “I can’t stay to chat. I’ve got something to take care of. Goodbye.”
Not waiting for a response, Allison got up, grabbed her bag from her room, and hurried out the
door.
Cindy was left standing there, bewildered. Did Allison really just walk out like that?
“How incredibly rude!” Cindy huffed to herself, fuming. “I hadn’t even mentioned leaving, and she just left. Does she even respect me as her elder?”
Cindy had adorned herself with her most extravagant jewelry today, aiming to show Allison, this naive girl with no worldly experience, the stark difference between herself and Shawn.
Before arriving, Cindy had planned to give Allison a hard time and was expecting her to be fawn over her. She had even imagined Allison calling Shawn in tears to complain.
But she never saw this coming.
With Allison gone, Cindy felt no reason to stick around either. She stormed out of the mansion and had already planned to vent her frustrations about Allison to Shawn.
She was utterly displeased with that ill–mannered girl!
The driver was waiting at the door.
Cindy had just settled into the car when her phone rang–it was Kate.
Calming her anger, she softened her tone and answered the call.
‘Kate, you won’t believe it! Shawn’s girlfriend is completely lacking in manners. I just saw it for myself. It’s like they say–you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl!”
Kate was thrilled to hear this. It was perfect. Allison had upset Cindy, which meant even if Shawn was hesitant to break up, their relationship wouldn’t last!
Kate sweetly replied, “Cindy, don’t let it bother you. There’s no point in comparing yourself to a girl from the sticks.”

In Kate’s eyes, being poor was synonymous with being unsophisticated.
Even if Allison wasn’t from the countryside, it didn’t matter to her.
Cindy said, “You’re always a delight, Kate. Shawn’s girlfriend said she was going to her hometown in a few days and won’t be going back. At least she knows her place!”
“Did she really say that?” Kate asked. “Is she planning to break up with Shawn then?”
Cindy replied, “Absolutely. Even if she doesn’t want to, I’ll make sure they break up. With her attitude towards me today, there’s no way she’ll continue seeing Shawn!”
“That’s wonderful to hear,” Kate said. “Cindy, are you heading back to the estate now? I’d love to come and keep you company.”
After leaving Stonebridge Court, Allison went straight to the law firm to resign.
She had been there for over three years, rising from an intern to a practicing attorney. This small firm had seen her grow.
Her assistant Breanna had just graduated and was a few years younger than Allison. She was visibly upset when she heard the news. Her eyes filled with tears. “Allison, why are you suddenly resigning?”
“I have some family stuff to deal with,” Allison replied. She initially thought resigning wasn’t a big deal, but seeing Breanna’s teary eyes tugged at her heart.
She and Breanna shared more than just a typical coworker relationship.
