Chapter 20
Her social media posts were configured to vanish after three days, and sometimes, she couldn’t even recall what she shared. But Joshua remembered every little detail.
Shawn, though? He never really paid attention to her updates. Even if she gave Shawn a heads–up about a business trip, he still called on the day she was leaving, clueless about why she was not in Havenbrook.
She had dreams of traveling with Shawn to places she had mentioned countless times. Yet, those destinations remained unvisited.
Turns out, being cared for feels different.
Allison finally gave in, rattling off the address to Shawn’s villa for Joshua.
Joshua confirmed, “You’ll be around tomorrow morning, right? I’ll have the car delivered then.”
“Yeah, I’ll be here.”
Shortly after the call, Shawn walked in with Kate. Allison was nestled on the living room couch, engrossed in a TV show.
She gave them a sideways glance but didn’t utter a word.
Shawn stayed silent, too, but Kate greeted her warmly, “Allison, fancy seeing you again.”
Allison lounged back on the sofa, eyes glued to a legal drama. She gave no response.
Kate sat beside her, unfazed. “You’re into these shows, huh?”
Shawn merely announced, “I’m heading for a shower,” and disappeared upstairs, leaving it unclear whom he was addressing.
As soon as Shawn left, Kate shed her facade. “You saw that video, right?” she said with a new, sharper tone. “Shawn loves me.”
Allison didn’t care who captured Shawn’s heart. She just nodded, eyes never leaving the screen. “Uh–huh, got it.”
Kate was irked by Allison’s nonchalance. Her eyes were full of disdain. “You act all cool. Let’s see how long that lasts.”
Allison shot back, “My act is not as convincing as yours.”
“Hmph.” Kate snorted, heading upstairs. “Shawn, I’m joining you for that shower.”
She tossed a smug smile Allison’s way, but it went unnoticed.
At dinner, Shawn and Kate sat together, leaving Allison on her own.
Allison smirked, “Did you have fun in the shower?”
“Allison, what are you babbling about?” Shawn snapped, anger seeping into his voice.
Chapter 20
Allison’s gaze lingered on the love bites along Shawn’s neck–Kate’s handiwork, no doubt.
She smiled sweetly at the fuming Shawn. “Think I’m making things up?”
Shawn glared. “Kate’s got nowhere else to stay, so she’s here for a bit. If you can’t handle it, you can leave.”
Allison knew he was still sore over the watch incident, but she wasn’t about to explain herself o admit fault.
She wasn’t wrong, after all.
Allison set her chopsticks down and walked away.
Who needed dinner when takeout’s were just a call away?
The next day, Joshua had someone deliver the car.
