Chapter 88
Joy: [They even set up a separate group chat just to gossip about you, and you’re not in it. I’ll send you the screenshots.]
In no time, Joy sent over thirty screenshots. As Allison scrolled through each one, her anger grew hotter with every swipe.
She had thought that treating her colleagues to a fancy dinner would help build better relationships at work. Little did she know that while they seemed polite and friendly in person, smiling and greeting her warmly, they were talking trash about her behind her back.
Elliott and Jack were the ringleaders, spreading rumors and tarnishing her reputation, while the other colleagues joined in the gossip without a shred of evidence, believing whatever they heard.
Allison realized she had misunderstood the complexity of office politics. She thought a single meal could bring people closer and maintain good relationships with her coworkers. It turned out she was being a bit too idealistic.
This place was truly cutthroat.
At that moment, she understood that only power and connections mattered in this environment. No one cared if you were kind or how you treated others. Sometimes, being too nice and easygoing just makes you an easy
target.
As Allison stared at the screenshots on her computer screen, she gritted her teeth silently.
Allison: [Joy, thanks for letting me know about all this. Could you do me a favor?]
Joy quickly replied: [Of course, Ms. Allison. You saved my life, so whatever you need, just ask.]
Allison: [Next time they talk about me, could you record it for me?]
Joy: [Sure.]
Allison took a deep breath to steady herself and then called Javier. “Hey, Dad. Is our company in need of a legal advisor?”
After hanging up, Allison got up to print several copies of a contract and headed straight to her family’s
company.
Upon arrival, she went directly to the chairman’s office.
Javier had just finished a meeting and knew she was coming, so he was waiting in his office.
Allison tossed the contract onto the table. “Dad, take a look at this contract. If it looks good, go ahead and sign
it.”
Javier flipped through the contract page by page. “I checked with my assistant. The contract with our current legal firm ends at the end of the year. I can sign a five–year deal with your firm, but the contract will start at the beginning of next year.”
Allison nodded. “That’s fine, but you’ll need to make the payment right after signing this afternoon.”
Javier glanced up at her. “Is it that urgent?”
“Yeah, last night I got harassed by two old creeps while discussing a case. The deal fell through, and my manager gave me an ultimatum.”
Javier’s tone turned sharp upon hearing about the harassment. “Who dared to harass you?”
Allison shrugged. “Don’t worry, they didn’t get away with it and ended up getting their asses kicked.” Javier frowned. “Allison, maybe you should stop being a lawyer. Not long ago, there was trouble at your firm, and now this harassment. The risks are too high. What if someone retaliates against you later? You should

come back to our company. I’ll arrange a general manager position for you.”
Allison shook her head. “No, I still prefer being a lawyer. I hold shares in the company, and the dividends are enough. Besides, I know nothing about running a business. Aren’t you afraid I’d ruin your company as a general manager?”
Javier chuckled. “I’d hire professionals to assist you.”
Allison still declined. “Well, maybe when I get tired of being a lawyer, I’ll consider it.”
Javier sighed, exasperated. “Allison…”
He signed the five–year legal advisory contract and immediately called the finance department to transfer $150,000 to the law firm’s account.
Allison smiled. “Any legal issues at the company lately?”
Javier called in a subordinate via the intercom.
“Let Soren fill you in. I don’t handle those matters day–to–day.”
“Alright.”
