Chapter 94
Joshua shot him a cool glance. “Do she really need to tell that to you?”
Sabrina nudged Brian. “Allie is Joshua’s fiancée, and they’re about to get engaged. Are you trying to steal the spotlight?”
“Ouch, quit pinching me,” Brian chuckled. “I just hate seeing Allison get pushed around. We’re all friends here, right?”
Joshua turned to Allison, concern flickering in his eyes. “Allie, you got harassed during that case, and then those rumors at the firm… I feel like I’m failing as your fiancé and not protecting you well enough.”
Allison shook her head. “It’s not like that, Joshua. You can’t be by my side 24/7.”
“Let me tell you, Allie. You’re his world. He can’t stand seeing you hurt,” Brian chimed in. “You should’ve seen him back in the day–he nearly pummeled someone for your sake…”
Joshua cut him off. “Brian!”
Noticing Joshua’s displeasure, Brian quickly shifted gears. “Well, I’m happy that things are good now. That’s what counts.”
Allison looked intrigued. “Who did he almost beat up?”
Joshua sipped his drink, playing it cool. “No one. Brian’s just making it up.”
Allison’s eyes, clear and bright, locked onto him, pretending to be stern. “Joshua, hush. I want to hear it from
Brian.”
Joshua went silent.
Brian glanced between the two, teasing, “Looks like Joshua’s got the wife calling the shots.”
George quipped, “You kidding? Being ‘under the wife’s thumb‘ just means he loves her, not that he’s scared of
her.”
Olivia took a sip of her wine. Her voice sounded soft and amused. “Exactly, Joshua’s the ultimate doting
husband.”
Brian continued, “Allison, did you hear about those two guys who harassed you? Their company got investigated, and, surprise, they were up to some shady stuff. They’re locked up now, and Joshua made sure their company tanked. Feels good, right?”
Allison turned to look at Joshua. His face was a mask, his presence icy and commanding. “I promised they’d
pay.”
Allison took a bite of her apple. “Serves them right.”
Brian nodded. “Couldn’t have happened to nicer folks.”
After finishing the apple, Allison realized they’d sidetracked her. She got back on track. “Brian, you still haven’t
told me who Joshua almost clobbered back then.”
Brian shot another look at Joshua, who stayed silent before speaking. “I think his name was David?”
Allison remembered him clearly.
Back in high school, she had a friend called Wendy. They were really close, but in the second semester, Wendy had to transfer to a regular high school due to family issues, leaving their elite school.
Allison was pretty upset about her friend’s transfer.
Wendy’s new school let out later than Allison’s, and during Wendy’s early days there, Allison would often wait for her outside to go shopping together.
