The next day, Davon Smith stormed in, slamming the door behind him.
“Avni Taylor! What the hell do you mean by this?!”
I was completely stunned. “Honey, what’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Avni Taylor! You went to my company and quit my job without telling me! Do you know!!

“Avni Taylor, don’t you think you should apologize to my brother? You’re really something, quitting his job for him like this.”
Just then, my mother–in–law returned from her dancing activity. As soon as she heard, hor face darkened.
“What? You quit my son’s job?”
The
whole family gathered around me, blaming me. They bombarded me with hansin words, pouring their anger into my ears.
I didn’t know who it was, but someone pushed me hard, and I fell to the ground. My leg was immediately covered with a bruise.

“I saw you last night, in the bathroom, unable to sleep. I couldn’t stand it, watching you suffer. Your health is getting worse. Why are you still going to work like a dog? You should
rest during your last days.”

When he heard me mention what happened last night, a flicker of panic crossed Davon’s

With so much money within his reach, the opportunity slipping through his fingers made

couldn’t bear it.”
I spoke logically, and for a moment, they all fell silent.
“Are you pretending to be sick? Do you really not have cancer? Are you lying to me?”
At these words, panic instantly spread across their faces.
“Let’s go! It must be the wrong diagnosis from some quack doctor. I’m taking you to see
someone else!”
As I spoke, I reached for Davon’s sleeve.

Davon called out, but his mother shot him a sharp look.

“Sweetheart, I know you’re doing this for me, but next time, can we discuss things first?”
“I know I was wrong, and next time I’ll consult with you first.”
I nodded obediently.
Davon had lost a high–paying, prestigious job, and for days, his mood remained sour. He
seemed intent on giving me the silent treatment.
But I grew suspicious, wondering if his illness was a lie or if the diagnosis was wrong. I was determined to drag him to a different hospital for a second opinion.
Davon, already feeling guilty, soon stopped giving me the cold shoulder. In fact, he treated me better, even playing the role of a good father in front of Rainie.
To maintain his act, Davon and his mistress came up with a plan.
They decided that divorce could no longer be delayed, so he began swallowing various pills
in front of me.
To make it more convincing, the medicine bottle clearly said it was for cancer treatment, but the pills inside were secretly replaced with vitamins and supplements.

I asked one last time.

“These past days, I’ve been trying to convince him to go to the hospital, but no matter what I
