Chapter

Soon, the police issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Anund Brown

Anund had become a wanted man, a rat in the street, and disappeared for several days

Just when I thought he had fled the city, he unexpectedly showed up at my villa one

vening

After he signed the divorce agreement last time, I had kicked him out, but it seemed he had secretly made a copy of the key to get in

I watched him warily, seeing how disheveled he looked

What do you want? Is it money?”

Anund pulled out a knife and waved it around, grinning at me

Money’s all I want. Love? What do you think? Hurry up, transfer one million. Not a penny

less!”

With that, he threw a note at me with an account number written on it

But I don’t have that much in my personal account,I replied

It has to go through the company’s accountant. How about this, I have gold bars at home. You can take them, they’re less risky.”

Anund’s eyes flickered for a moment, and he grinned in satisfaction

How could I forget? You’ve got dozens of gold bars in your safe. You’re still as clever as

ever, wife.”

He forced me to open the safe, greedily packing thirty gold bars into his backpack

After grabbing the gold, Anund plopped down onto the bed, wiped the sweat from his face, and sighed

Dear, honestly, we didn’t have to come to this. If you’ll just forgive me now, I’ll let it all go

and be a good husband again.

I shook my head in disbelief

Anund, honestly, I’ve never done anything to wrong you in these years. But the things you’ve done have really hurt me.”

I loved you so much, chased you for four years, married you for three. How could you betray me like this?”

Anund looked somewhat moved by my words, guilt written all over his face

I don’t knowdear! I don’t know how I became this way!”

Suddenly, I went from being a poor guy to someone with money and status

I didn’t know what my life’s worth was anymore, and the emptiness grew. I wanted to fill that void by seeking thrills to satisfy my growing ambition. I was wrong, I really was!”

I’m a softhearted person, so seeing the remorse in Anund’s eyes made it hard for me to harden my heart

Anund, I can’t continue being married to you. But promise me this: take the gold and go live the rest of your life in peace. Don’t stir up trouble anymore, and I won’t report you

okay?”

Hahaha, I’ve been so foolish. If we were still married, this gold would be mine anywayhahahaBut now I regret it. It’s too late. Good luck, hope you never find a man like me

again!”

With that, Anund dropped the key on the floor, slung the backpack over his shoulder, and

left

Sorry, sir, but that’s not possible. This is a lady’s advance payment”

The gold he had stolen was promptly returned by the police. But to my surprise, during his capture, Anund slit his throat with the knife he had been carrying and committed suicide

His final words to me were, I’m sorry.”

Chapter

After Anund’s death, I focused all my energy on my career

This incident made me reflect on my past views on love

I realized that some things should have been respected more, particularly my parents‘

advice

With Anund, I had only seen his youth, good looks, and talent, but I overlooked his background, upbringing, and character

Yet, my parents had seen right through it from the start. They knew we were mismatched

that it couldn’t last

I still believe in love, but I will no longer be as blind as I was when I was younger

One day, someone more deserving of my love will come along

(The End
