Chapter 5
So, I raised my voice, “Dad, calm down, please! Mom, please talk some sense into him!”
As soon as I said this, the room fell completely silent.
Nelson Jim looked like he’d been struck by lightning. He muttered to himself in disbelief, “Dad? Mom?”
After some convincing from my mom and me, my father finally calmed down a bit. But hearing the words “Dad” and “Mom” made his anger flare up again.
“Who’s your dad? What nonsense are you talking? I only have one daughter, and that’s Shiny!”
My mom rolled her eyes. “I can’t even pretend to be your mom. I’m just a useless woman who only gave birth to daughters.”
Nelson Jim remembered what he had just said and felt as though the sky was falling down around him. His legs gave way, and he staggered back, collapsing onto the sofa.
“Shiny, what’s going on? How are you the only daughter of Mr. Nick? Aren’t you supposed to be surnamed Forest? What’s going on?”
“Are you two playing a joke on me?”
I rolled my eyes but still explained, “A joke? Who do you think we are? Why would we play a joke on- you?”
father
“Anyway, since you asked, I’ll kindly explain. I take my mother’s surname Lin because my isn’t obsessed with having sons. It doesn’t matter what surname I have; I’m still his daughter.”
“Also, you mentioned that you’d be helping manage the Nick family’s business.
That’s not necessary.
I’ve already started taking over the company’s operations from the ground up over the past two years. I’ll be handling it myself from now on, so there’s no need for you.”
Nelson Jim’s face drained of color. He stood up abruptly, as if he were about to say something, but he collapsed again, this time unconscious.
Luttered that he was useless, but still had my assistant call an ambulance to have him taken away.

I also instructed the downstairs reception to ensure he was never allowed back into the building.
After all that, I returned to my parents‘ side.
They still looked upset, but I couldn’t help but be curious about why Nelson Jim had thought he was going to marry the only daughter of a wealthy family.
So, after a brief pause, I couldn’t resist asking, “Dad, did you meet Nelson Jim yesterday? Did you say something to him?”
My father looked a little embarrassed as he nodded.
“Yes, I saw him at the banquet yesterday. He seemed nervous and cautious, but since you’d shown
e his photo, I took the initiative to greet him.”
“We chatted for a bit, and I found him quite interesting. I joked around, saying I was looking out for
him and that I wanted to introduce him to my daughter as her boyfriend.
I even asked if he had a girlfriend…”
So that’s how it happened?
I nodded. “And then?”
My father sighed. “Then he shook his head frantically, claiming he didn’t have a girlfriend, looking
really strange.
I thought he must have figured out my relationship with you and was lying to cover up. Who would’ve thought…”
I couldn’t help but chuckle. “What a coincidence. Nelson Jim never knew my identity.
He thought you liked him and wanted him as a rich family’s son–in–law, so the first thing he did was break up with me.”
At this, my mom couldn’t help but laugh. “I was a little mad before, but hearing you say that, I feel better now. A joke like that made him dump his girlfriend. Imagine if he’d married someone like
that!”
“Not just that! Last night…” Seeing my mom happy again, I quickly continued, embellishing the story about what had happened the previous evening.
After finding out the truth, I was worried Nelson Jim would pester me, so I went abroad with my best friend for a few months, intending to enjoy myself a bit more.
But by the time I returned, Nelson Jim had already started spreading lies among our mutual friends. and even began borrowing money. I realized I had to come back.
Td barely been back for three days when I received a call from Evelyn Wat. Nelson Jim still couldn’t speak for himself–he really was the epitome of a mama’s boy.
I didn’t refuse Evelyn Wat’s request to come over, so she brought Nelson Jim to my estate.
When they stepped inside, they were like country bumpkins in a grand mansion, practically bubbling with envy and admiration.
Evelyn Wat was all smiles. “Shiny, we’ve missed you so much these past few months.”
always thought you had a noble air about you, but it turns out you’re the only daughter of a wealthy family! You’re so low–key.”
“You and Nelson Jim are just the perfect match–no, it’s a match made in heaven! The two of you are
meant for each other!”
