Chapter 5
Dorian’s eyes widened immediately.
“A divorce?” he asked, his voice trembling. “Evangeline, you
want a divorce?”
I waved the divorce papers in front of him, showing that I had already signed them.
Dorian snatched the document from me and tore it to pieces, growling, “I won’t divorce you! We can have our own children… Honey, we’re not splitting up!”
Nearby, Aurelia suddenly dropped to her knees in front of me, saying, “Evangeline, I’m sorry, this is all my fault… Dorian only changed his mind because he felt sorry for
Finnian.”
“If you need to blame someone, blame me. I…”
I pulled her up from the floor firmly and slapped her hard across the face.
Aurelia held her cheek, looking at me with resentment, but she couldn’t do anything.
“Did you think I’d never stand up to you like before?”
Perhaps the meaning in my eyes was all too clear, and for once, Aurelia lowered her gaze.
Instinctively, Dorian stepped in front of Aurelia to protect her, saying irritably, “What happens between us shouldn’t involve anyone else.”
“This is my decision; don’t blame her.”
“I just couldn’t stand to see Finnian feeling insecure without a father.”
Dorian’s supposedly noble words made me want to laugh.
I couldn’t help but ask him, “Dorian, have you ever thought
about me?”
A flicker of guilt appeared on Dorian’s face, but he quickly regained his composure.
“We don’t have children yet; things can change when Finnian
grows up!”
“Finnian is a real child, I can’t be that selfish! Why can’t you understand me?”
His twisted logic made me think that not having children was a blessing.
In such a household, a child wouldn’t find happiness either.
With that thought, my anger subsided.
I looked at the shredded papers on the floor, then at Dorian, who stood there full of self–righteousness.
I said softly, “I’ll have another copy of the divorce agreement printed and sent to you.”
Dorian reached out and held my hand, pleading, “Once Aurelia and Finnian move out, we can have a child of our
own.”
Before I could respond, I felt a sudden shove from behind.
Finnian’s angry, childish voice came from behind me: “Bad person! You’re trying to take my dad away again!”
“You’re a bad person! Get out of my house!”
No sooner had he spoken than he threw the glass he was holding straight at my forehead.
Caught off guard, I couldn’t react in time, and the glass
struck me directly on the forehead.
Warm blood began to trickle down.
Seeing this, Aurelia quickly pulled Finnian into her arms, afraid I’d retaliate.
“Evangeline, I’m sorry. Finnian just acted out in a moment of panic, he’s just a kid… Please don’t hold it against him, okay?”
“I’ll cover your medical expenses.”
Before I could say anything, Dorian added, “Evangeline, Finnian is still young; we can’t mess him up over this.”
I looked at the three of them, all united against me, and
chuckled softly.
Staggering to my feet, I looked at Dorian.
The eyes that once held so much love now held only an indescribable disappointment.

“I’ll cover your medical expenses.”
Before I could say anything, Dorian added, “Evangeline,
Finnian is still young; we can’t mess him up over this.”
I looked at the three of them, all united against me, and
chuckled softly.
Staggering to my feet, I looked at Dorian.
The eyes that once held so much love now held only an
indescribable disappointment.
Dorian suddenly snapped out of it.
He hurriedly let go of Finnian and ran towards me.
“Honey, how’s your wound? Let me bandage it for you.”
I pushed him away firmly and said coldly, “Dorian, I’m set on
divorcing you.”
“As for this house, I need you all to move out as soon as
possible.”
With that, I covered my wound and started walking towards
the door.
But before I reached it, I felt a sharp pain in my arm.
