I found out that Dorian Johnson had returned to the country
the next day.
The police had escorted him directly to my home.
I looked at Dorian sitting in the living room, unable to
fathom what he intended to achieve.
My parents offered to go for a walk, giving us a chance to
talk privately.
I gazed at him steadily.
“Did you come back for something?”
Dorian’s eyes reddened at my question.
“Evangeline, how could you be so heartless? You sold the house and left without a word.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his words.
“Dorian, wasn’t it you who always wanted the divorce?”
“I was just giving you what you wanted!”
Without thinking, Dorian replied, “I never wanted the divorce!
You’re the only one I’ve ever loved!”
Hearing this, I gave a sardonic smile.
“Really? Is hurting me your way of expressing love?”
“I don’t need that kind of love.”

He finally realized how much he had hurt me.
After a long pause, he spoke quietly:
“I only wanted to help Aurelia. I never meant to hurt you.”

This was the first time Dorian tried to explain his feelings for Aurelia since she appeared.
But I no longer cared.
I looked at him with indifference.

I sighed and calmly told him:
“If there’s nothing else, you should leave. It’s warm outside, and my parents might get heatstroke.”
Dorian seemed taken aback by my suggestion to leave.

I opened the door, motioning for him to go.
Eventually, Dorian gave in, lowering his head as he left.
I thought that after today, I wouldn’t see Dorian again.
But I didn’t expect him to rent a place near my home.
Every day, he would leave food he had cooked himself at my
doorstep.
My mom looked at the food containers by the door, unsure
of what to do, and asked me.
I glanced at them and said calmly:
“Just leave them. He’ll come to collect them himself.”
Dorian didn’t seem to mind my indifference at all.
He persistently made different dishes for me every day.
Later, he even included small desserts.
Finally, one day, I couldn’t take it anymore and waited for
him at the door.
Dorian’s face lit up when he saw me.
He handed me the food, cautiously saying:
“Honey, I made pulled pork and broccoli today, and some spiced honey cake I baked myself. Give them a try.”
I took the food from his hands.
The joy on Dorian’s face became more apparent.
But I carried the container straight to the trash bin.
I glanced back at a stunned Dorian before dropping it into
the bin.
With a loud “thud,” Dorian’s eyes instantly filled with tears.
He choked up, asking why I did that.

“Your actions are disrupting my life.”

“I just wanted to be nicer to you. I don’t want a divorce…”

Finally, he slowly turned and left.
Not long after, the realtor informed me that the house was

The buyer didn’t negotiate the price.
