Chapter 13 Rumors
Kate looked up in shock, and Chloe’s face mirrored her astonishment.
The weak and almost invisible Mrs. Floyd was actually the magazine’s renowned top journalist?
Shana smirked as she walked toward the door. As she passed Kate, she paused and added, “You can forget about ever getting that magazine interview.”
Once back in her car. Shana pulled out a pen and pressed the cap. Kate’s arrogant and confrontational words as the mistress played back crystal clear.
As a journalist, Shana had a habit of recording her work for later reference, but this time she had done it deliberately.
She planned to sue Henry for infidelity. He might argue that she had no proof, but now the evidence had practically fallen into her lap.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the car window. Kate stood there, wearing sunglasses.
Shana lowered the window and gave her a sideways glance.
Kate leaned in, her voice low and dripping with cold mockery, “Shana, do you really think you can keep holding on to the title of Mrs. Floyd? Henry told me that last time was just a warning. If you don’t know your place, next time it won’t just be one man you’re forced to serve.”
H
Shana’s face turned pale, her eyes filled with fury as if she could tear Kate apart right then and there.
Kate felt a chill run down her spine under Shana’s glare, but she managed to hold her composure and walked away with a haughty stride.
Shana felt a cold numbness spread through her body, her heart pricked with pain.
The truth was, a mistress wouldn’t dare be so brazen in front of the legitimate wife unless Henry had allowed it. He had never treated her as a true wife, so murally, others didn’t respect her either.
It seemed like everyone felt they had the right to walk all over her.
Shana sat in the driver’s seat, watching the cars pass by on the busy street. Among the bustling crowds, she felt more alone than ever.
She didn’t know how long she sat there before her phone chimed with a notification.
It was a WhatsApp message from Cheryl. She wanted to celebrate Shana’s fresh start with a big dinner, followed by a night of karaoke, clubbing, and whatever else the night brought–no going home until they were drunk.
Shana felt like she could use a way to blow off some steam, so she immediately replied, “Send me the address.

Though the Harveys weren’t quite as wealthy as the Floyds, they were still very well–off, and their ties to the Floyd family gave them considerable status. Naturally, Cheryl was a bona fide rich kid, with impeccable taste in all things luxury.
So, when Cheryl suggested they have dinner at Portchester Grand Hotel, Shana didn’t think much of it and drove straight over.
The restaurant was on the top floor. As soon as Shana stepped out of the elevator, she saw a man standing directly ahead of her. His deep–set eyes and handsome features gave him an almost godlike appearance. Broad shoulders, long legs–those legs, in particular, were impossible to ignore.
Who else could it be but that jerk Henry?
He was already dangerously attractive, but tonight, in a custom–tailored black tuxedo, he was downright irresistible, drawing all eyes to him.
Henry seemed to sense her gaze and looked over. There wasn’t the slightest trace of surprise in his fact, the corners of his lips even curled up slightly.
eyes.

Shana suddenly remembered that Larry had mentioned the business dinner was being held here. What are the odds?
Judging by Henry’s smug expression, he must’ve thought she was playing hard to get, pretending not to
come while eagerly showing up anyway.
Without a word, Shana treated him like thin air and turned to leave.
Henry’s handsome face darkened. After quickly wrapping up his conversation with the others, he strode toward her.
Before Shana could step into the elevator, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the far end of the hallway.
“Shana, there’s a limit to how much you can play hard to get. If you push too far, you’ll lose more than you gain.”
Henry believed he had already given her enough chances to back down, yet she kept testing his patience.
Shana shook off his hand in disgust, trying to keep her anger in check. I’m not here to attend the dinner with you. I’m here to meet Cheryl.”
Henry let out a mocking laugh. “Cheryl’s on a business trip. At this time, she should be on a plane. If you’re going to lie, at least come up with a better excuse.”
On a plane? Then who sent me that WhatsApp message?

Seeing the slight change in her expression as if she had just been caught in a lie, Henry’s irritation eased. and his dark eyes softened a bit. “Alright, since you’re here, make a good impression tonight. I’ll overlook everything you’ve done recently. You’re still Mrs. Floyd, and nothing has to change.”
In that moment, Shana realized something: not only was Henry blindly confident, but he also couldn’t understand a word she said. No matter how many times she mentioned divorce, he only heard what he wanted to hear.

Unable to tolerate it any longer. Shana was just about to launch into a tirade when she caught sight of Lany huddled in a corner, hands clasped together, giving her a pitiful, pleading look.
She bit back her words, It seemed this dinner really walimportant, otherwise, Larry wouldn’t have dared to deceive her into coming.
Her dark eyes quickly darted around, and then she smirked. Fine. I’ll make sure to behave.”
Henry smiled in satisfaction. “Take her to get styled”
Larry stepped forward and, with the utmost respect, guided Shana to the dressing room. Fortunately, the makeup artists and stylists were already prepared, so all she had to do was sit at the vanity.
As always, Shana was completely cooperative, not showing a hint of complaint. It was as if the whole divorce drama had never happened.
Seeing this Larry quietly breathed a sigh of relief and thanked her profusely. “Mrs. Floyd, titank you so much for cooperating. If you hadn’t, I’d be packing my things and heading to some remote outpost by

Shana lazily fiddled with her phone, barely glancing up. No need to thank me.”
Just don’t cry later, she thought
Half an hour later, Shana emerged in a figure–hugging, beige lace gown with a fishtail hem, which accentuated her curves. Her long, dark curls cascaded down her back, and her skin glowed like porcelain She looked every bit like a mermaid stepping onto land
Henry glanced at her, and for a split second, a flicker of admiration flashed in his eyes, but all he said was, “I’ll do
Shana held back the urge to roll her eyes. She didn’t care about his opinion anymore–she was dressing for herself now, not for him.
Henry wrapped an arm around her slender waist and led her into the banquet hall.
The moment they appeared, all eyes turned to them, and whispers began to ripple through the crowd.
James, Jeaning on his cane, approached them, his sharp eyes scrutinizing the couple before he smiled. “Mr. Floyd, Mrs. Floyd, it’s good to see you both still so in love. I guess those rumors about your marital troubles and impending divorce were just that–rumors.“
Henry was about to respond, but Shana spoke first, her lips parting slightly. “Mr. James, I came here tonight to clarify the status of our marriage.”
She intentionally looked at Henry, took a deep breath, and then smiled as she continued. “There have been rumors that we’re getting divorced, and I want to clear the air–this is not.
Sensing where she was going, Henry’s eyes narrowed. In a swift motion, he grabbed the back of her head. tilted his handsome face down, and captured her lips in a forceful kiss, cutting off the rest of her words.
