Third person POV
Amanda’s life was over without David as her inate; she had no future. And without Ella as her friend, she had no resources. Everything that she had fought to gadu for herself vanished in an instant, all because Ella had burst into the room with some stupid cake to wish her a happy birthday.
As if Amanda would forgive her for planning her wedding the day before her birthday just because Ella gave her a couple of silly presents. It was all ruined and for nothing.
David wouldn’t speak to her. He wouldn’t answer her phone calls or reply to her letters.
She was okay with taking the blame for what had happened in public; she understood that David had a reputation to protect. After all, he wanted to become king someday. But that didn’t mean that he had to cut her off completely.
The only explanation was that he was doing it because of Ella.
He must have concluded that he could only win Ella back if he cut Amanda off completely. He might be right; he usually was. But that didn’t mean that Amanda had to accept it
Amanda could endure a lot for David. She accepted her parents‘ disappointment in her and the mockery of her siblings. She accepted that many members of her own pack were openly rejecting her over what happened.
She even accepted that David had publicly blarned her. But she couldn’t accept his silence.
This was all Ella’s fault. If she would just stop overreacting to things, then everything would be fine.
She had already gone through the ceremony of marrying David. It was ridiculous for her to back out of the binding ceremony at the last moment.
Wasn’t it more embarrassing to let a scandal like this go public than to just keep silent and go through with th political marriage? Amanda would have done it if she weren Ella’s place.
But the spoiled little princess had to have everything perfect. Well, she wasn’t going to get away with it this time. Amanda was going to make sure of that.
She was going to show Ella exactly what it felt like to be the subject of a public scandal. All of the mockery and shame that Amanda was being forced to endure, she would bring to Ella as well. Maybe then she wouldn’t feel so high and mighty.
Amanda had a lot of contacts who were willing to do just about anything for a little bit of money, so she reached out to one of them–a rogue she could trust to be silent if he got caught. What she was asking him for wasn’t much, really; all she wanted was for him to kiss Ella.
Make it somewhere public, where people would see and maybe even get some video. Then, once word got out that Ella was seen kissing a man in public, people would believe she wasn’t faithful either. Her reputation would be damaged just like Amanda’s was.
Amanda could make everyone believe that Ella had been secretly seeing a lover behind David’s back. Then people would see them as even. Ella would be forced to take David back, and David would forgive Amanda. Everything would be the way it was supposed to be. Amanda could fix this; she had to.
So she called the rogue and arranged it all. Now, all she had to do was wait.
Ella’s POV
Things had been strange since the failed wedding, but I was doing my best not to lose sight of my goals. I was determined to become the alpha of my pack when my father was ready to retire, and I knew exactly how much

work that would entail. I couldn’t afford to slack off.
My father had an important meeting in the capital, and he agreed to let me tag along with him. I wouldn’t be able to attend the actual meeting itself, but I knew that my presence would still make an impact and show my dedication to the affairs that concerned my pack.
When my father went into his meeting, I went outside to take a walk around the block and get some fresh air. I had been hoping to meet up with Alexander in person for a short while, but unfortunately, he wasn’t available.
It was probably for the best; we didn’t want to risk being seen together too much until we were ready to let the public begin to speculate about the nature of our relationship.
David was still reaching out to me nearly every day. I was beginning to feel impatient. I knew I had to ignore that feeling, though, the end result was too important to risk it just because I was eager to move on.
I knew that there was nothing real between Alexander and me, but the simple fact that I enjoyed spending time with him was enough. There had been very little joy in my life recently, thanks to David and Amanda.
I looked forward to simply having pleasant conversations with someone with whom I was on equal footing.
Alexander didn’t have any secret ulterior motives in our relationship because our relationship was business. We were helping each other out and understood the terms we were working under. No one was trying to steal power from the other, nor were we trying to trick each other into thinking our feelings were something more than they
were.
It was an easy kind of honesty that I craved after everything I’d been through with David and Amanda and all of their lies.
It may have been my imagination, but I felt like Alexander also enjoyed spending time with me. He seemed to be in a good mood whenever we talked and appeared sincere on the occasions when he complimented me, which seemed to be happening more frequently.
I felt that he was probably practicing for when our fake relationship became public, but it made me feel good nonetheless.
It was a nice day out, and there were a lot of people walking around the capital. It was nice to just enjoy the fresh air and clear my head. So much had been happening recently; I felt like I hardly had a chance to think things through
I turned a corner and began to head back towards the building where my father’s meeting was being held. He would be wrapping up soon, and I didn’t want him to be stuck waiting around for me.
There were several tall office buildings on this road, with narrow alleys in between. The alleys served as shortcuts to some of the buildings, but for where I was going, it was quicker to just walk directly down the street.
As I was passing one of the side alleys, I caught motion out of the corner of my eye
I turned and saw a tall, dark–haired man stepping out of the shadows. Something about him looked familiar, but I couldn’t place it.
Something about the man made me afraid. I froze to the spot as I stared at him.
The man looked back at me and grinned. My heart jumped, but I realized too late that the man was dangerous. I turned away from him, ready to run, but he grabbed my arm and yanked me backward into the alleyway.
