Third Person POV
David couldn’t accept that Ella had moved on so quickly.
The two of them had been together for many years. He was the only boyfriend that she had ever had. They had planned a life together.
There was no way she had started dating anyone else so quickly, especially not that bastard Alexander Black.
He couldn’t, no, he wouldn’t accept it.
If Ella thought she was going to get away with embarrassing him like this, she had another thing coming.
There was too much at stake for him to allow things to end like this.
Why did she have to choose Alexander? If it had been anyone else, he might have been able to let it go, but Alexander was his rival.
Alexander was the strongest competitor in the race for alpha King. He couldn’t allow Alexander to steal Ella away from him. Not only would it give him control of far too much land in the kingdom, but it would make Alexander look like a hero.
David couldn’t allow them to make him look like a villain. He had to find a way to make Ella forgive him. So much damage had been done already, there was no other way to undo it.
Ella had to take him back. If she wouldn’t do it by choice, then he simply had to find another way.
He was sitting in the back seat of his car as his driver took him towards the border of his packlands. The help he needed to win Ella over wouldn’t be found in his own pack
He smiled bitterly as he looked out the window. All of his best allies were outside of his pack. He didn’t mind that.
Soon, he would be king. Everyone in the South would have to answer to him. He would be able to make all of the people that had made his life difficult pay and reward those that had helped him.
All he had to do was take care of Ella.
Ella POV
“I’ll take care of it,” Alexander said dismissively.
“That’s generous of you, but I don’t need you to take care of every little thing,” I pointed out. I handed the barista my credit card.
Alexander frowned at me. “I can’t have my girlfriend paying for my coffee,” he said. “People will think that I’m a freeloader.”
You paid for dinner last night,” I pointed out. “And breakfast on Monday. I can get you things once in a while,
too.”
“Your company is all I need,” he said.
The way he was smiling at me made my heart beat too quickly. Alexander and I had been seeing a lot of each other, and at times I found it difficult to tell if he was still acting or if he really intended to win my heart.
If he was being serious, I doubted that it would be a difficult thing for him to pull off. I couldn’t remember ever having so much fun with another person.

I knew that I had to be careful. I couldn’t allow myself to be distracted by emotions. This was all with the goal of protecting my pack and the entire kingdom from falling victim to David. But, it was okay if I had some fun along the way, wasn’t it?
I felt that I had earned that much. Things were already better than they had been in the original timeline. I could afford to let my guard down just a little.
I couldn’t explain why, but I trusted Alexander. I felt that could really relax with him.

We stepped away from the counter to walt for our drinks. As we did, Alexander put his arm around my waist. I felt butterflies as he did.
David often did the same thing when we were together, but it never made me feel good the way it did when Alexander held me like this.
I leaned against his side.
It was a busy day at the shopping center. There were a lot of people around, and both Alexander and I were recognizable. It was obvious that people would take note of the two of us being out together and of our behavior with one another.
It was already common knowledge that we were dating. Word had spread quickly.
“You know, I think that spending time in the capital has been good for you,” Alexander said suddenly, his voice
softer than usual.
I looked up at him curiously. “What makes you say that?” asked, tilting my head.
“You seem much more comfortable in crowded places than before,” he replied, his eyes tracing my face. “Your posture is more confident, like you’ve grown into yourself.
“Are you saying I seemed frightened before?” I asked, pretending to be offended but feeling a little thrill at his
observation.
“No,” he said, a smile tugging at his lips, “but I did notice that you were focused on appearing confident. Now, it’s just you. There’s no effort. It’s natural.”
I thought about what he said, and he was right. I had worked hard to project confidence, especially when everything felt so unstable. But now, with him by my side, it felt real.
“I think I have you to thank for that,” I said, looking up at him through my lashes.
Alexander raised a brow, genuinely surprised. “Me? What did I do?”
I rolled my eyes playfully. “Don’t pretend to be so shocked you’re always giving me compliments. Who wouldn’t feel more confident with you around, telling them how amazing they are?”
His soft laugh made my stomach flutter, and before I could react, he tugged me closer, his arm brushing against mine. “Well, I wasn’t expecting that,” he murmured. “But it’s good to know my words are making an impact. They’re all true, you know.”
My heart skipped a beat, and warmth crept up my neck as I blushed at his sincerity. It was easy to brush off his charm most days, but in this moment, his words hit deeper Was he really just playing his part, or was there something more?
“You’re definitely good for my ego,” I muttered, trying to steady my voice.
“Is that so?” he asked, his gaze locked onto mine, a spark of something unspoken lingering in his eyes. “Well, I’m glad to hear it. I think you deserve every compliment and more.”

I didn’t know what to say, suddenly aware of how close we were standing, his warmth enveloping me.
An awkward silence hung between us, but not the uncomfortable kind–the kind that felt heavy with the potential for something more.
His phone rang, breaking the moment. He glanced down and frowned. “I have to take this,” he said, his voice tinged with regret.
I nodded. “I’ll wait here.”
He hesitated for a second, then leaned down and kissed me gently on the cheek. The touch lingered, sending a shiver down my spine, and before I could react, he was already walking away, leaving me with the echo of his touch and a racing heart.
I looked around me slowly as I waited for my name to be called for the baristas. There was a long line ahead of us when we ordered, so it would likely be a couple more minutes before our drinks were ready.
I noticed a short, red–headed woman with big brown eyes approaching me. She had a serious expression on her
face.
“You’re Ella Rowan, right?” she said in a nervous tone.
“Yes,” I confirmed. “Who are you?”
“My name is Nadia,” she answered. “I used to date Alexander.”
