Chapter 31: Mouth–to–Mouth to the Pei Shao
Riley was speechless, unable to argue.“I’ll go pay the bill.”
She went to the counter. The owner recognized her.“Your boyfriend is very handsome.” Riley paused, looking at Liam, who was on the phone. He caught her gaze, a slight smile playing on his lips.“No,” he said into the phone.“Busy. Don’t want to.” He hung up, his gaze returning to Riley.
Riley looked for her wallet, but couldn’t find it. She awkwardly returned to the table.
Liam asked, “What’s wrong?”
Riley said embarrassedly, “I think I left my wallet in the dorm. And my phone’s dead, so I can’t pay.” She showed him her dead phone.
Liam smirked. “I have enough power. Sit down. I’ll pay and drive you home.”
Riley sat obediently, waiting for him to finish. His phone rang again; he ignored it, looking annoyed. Riley guessed he was ignoring it because of her.
She turned to the window.“It’s snowing. I’ll go take a look.”
As she stood, he grabbed her wrist.“It’s cold outside. Stay here.”
“I’ll just look for a minute.”
“Don’t be stubborn. Sit.”
*Bossy, she muttered under her breath, sitting back down.
Liam suddenly said, “How was your visit to your father?”
Riley was surprised, then lowered her head.“It was… okay.”
Liam said languidly, “If my descendants treated me like that, I’d never forgive them.”
Riley:“…” She didn’t want to either, but her mother controlled the family, and she had no say. Her only hope was Pei’s mother.
Remembering her promise, Riley felt frustrated. She shouldn’t have argued so harshly with Jake; she should have appeased him. She sighed.
Liam put down his chopsticks and tapped her head.“What are you sighing about?
Riley flinched, still uncomfortable with the affectionate gesture. She shook her head.“Nothing

“Yes. Let’s go.”
On the way, Liam’s phone rang repeatedly. Riley remained silent. The car stopped at her apartment building.
She softly thanked him, getting out.“They probably need you urgently. Answer your phone. Don’t worry them.”
Liam glanced at the numerous missed calls, a playful smirk on his face.“You’re trying to boss me around?”
Riley:“…”

The snow, which had stopped, started falling again, heavier this time. Soon, a layer of snow covered her hair.
Liam beckoned her.“Riley, come here.”
She approached.“The snow is heavy. Drive carefully.”
He smiled faintly, extending his hand outside the car window, brushing the snow from her head.“Go home. Text me when you get to the dorm.”
“Okay. Goodbye.” She turned and went inside.
Liam watched her disappear into the night. His phone rang again Peter,

Liam interrupted.“Driving the kid home.”
Peter paused.“Oh, that’s why. Okay, go ahead. Bye.”
Back in the dorm, Riley received a notice from the dorm manager: she needed to move out this week; the dorm was being renovated for next year’s students. She began packing, realizing she’d have to find a new place sooner than she thought. She couldn’t find her wallet. Sitting at her desk, she started to recall her whereabouts. Her phone buzzed – a message Liam.
[Riley, are you teleporting?]
She replied with a confused emoji.

Liam:[I figured it would take you ten minutes to walk from my car to the dorm.] Riley realized he’d asked her to text him when she arrived. Before she could explain, his phone
rang.
She hesitated, then answered.
“Hello.”
“At the dorm?”
Riley murmured an affirmative.
“I thought you were kidnapped.”
Riley laughed nervously.
Liam:“What are you doing?”
Riley looked around her messy dorm.“Packing. I’m moving.”
“Need help? I’ll have Peter come.”
Riley blurted out, “Why not you?”
Liam paused, then chuckled softly.
Riley felt awkward.
Elam:“Riley.” His voice had a playful lilt.

were clenched tightly. Trying to distract herself, she çontinued packing. She finally realized where her wallet was – in Jake’s house.
She sighed heavily. It wasn’t the money, but the important documents inside. She hesitated to contact Jake. She didn’t want to see him. She’d get it back herself after he left for work.
Jake left the auction. His driver asked if he was going home or to the family estate.
“Home.” But his home was empty and cold.

The driver was surprised; his boss had been hitting the bars hard lately. He couldn’t comment; he just drove.
Jake sat in a private room, texting people. Soon, the room filled with women, dressed provocatively, clinging to men. It wasn’t unusual in their circles.
Jake usually participated, then called Riley to clean up the mess.
Han Cheng, sitting in the corner, rejected a woman’s offer of a mouth–to–mouth drink. He pointed at Jake.
“If
you can get Pei Shao to accept a mouth–to–mouth drink, I’ll give you 10,000 yuan.”
