Back in his room, Nathan slumped onto the couch, feeling utterly drained. Deep down, he’d always known that things with the Rowland family would end up like this. But he’d been fooling himself, trying to hang onto the fantasy of family love. He craved it so much.

Nathan didn’t bother to reply; he just pulled his suitcase and walked away. With a casual wave, he said over his shoulder, “Tell the old man he’s backed the wrong horse.”
