Chapter 43
Irene’s POV:
George, please assist me with her,” Lenora told her fiancé, and he swiftly moved to my other side to hold me up just like Lenora was doing.
“One step at a time, darling.” Lenora said, but all I could think about was why this house where I live with Damien is also the same house Lenora claims to be her own.
Maybe there’s a mix–up somewhere. Or maybe I was the one hallucinating and assuming the house standing rigidly before us was the same house. Maybe the entire shocking and terrifying experience has left me with a hazy mind. Maybe I was much more affected than I had thought.
And all this confusion brought me was a headache. Migraines struck and I couldn’t help but wince out loud.
“Sorry, we’re almost there,” Lenora said, thinking it was my ankle that was hurting me.
I should stop thinking. Everything will be clear to me the moment I step into the house. I will be sure of everything then.
“We’re here” Leonora said and pushed the door open.
Once the door revealed the inside of the house, and George and Lenora helped me inside, the very first face I saw made me breathe out a huge sigh
of relief.
Jam home.
I am safe.
As Damien and Delores rushed towards me with smiling and relieved faces, I felt my body lose the remaining strength I had left in me, my knees weakened and I could feel myself falling to the ground. Before my body could even feel the impact of my collapse, my eyes involuntarily shut close.
Oblivion took over, pulling me to be buried in a dreamless land. A place that was void, thoughtless, and painless. So I succumbed to the peace it proposed.
Each time I tried to gain consciousness, it felt as if a truck had just hit me and my head throbbed with a pounding ache. It hurts so much. I attempted to open my eyes to see where I was and who the hushed voices I was hearing belonged to, but it was all to no avail
But I was able to tell that I was in a hospital with the continual beeping sound from the heart monitor.
I wanted nothing more but to inquire about my condition, but there was nothing I could do when my entire body hurt. My attempts to stay awake were effortless, especially as I kept getting sedated time after time.
However, the urge to see my son and Damien kept rising in me, but my mind was more powerful than me and all I had to do was wait until my body felt like waking up.
I was unsure just how long had passed in this place, I couldn’t tell how long I had been lying on a hospital bed and kept fighting both pain and consciousness. It could have been hours or days. Everyone must have been so worried.
I don’t even know what might have transpired between the lady who saved me and Damien. Was everything alright?
But when I finally succeeded in blinking my eyes open and the pain was minimal, I did a quick scan of my surroundings.
Instantly, I could tell that it was a private room looking at how it was only my bed that was in the room and I was alone at

1 slowly rose up and sar–up on the bed, resting my back against the board. I could still feel the fatigue that had weighed me down to my bones. A groan eraped my lips and I felt my throat was dry.
A nurse suddenly walked in. She looked equally surprised and relieved to see me awake.
“Good morning, Mrs. Chad. The nurse greeted me with a warmamile. And I could only nod as it felt hard to talk with my hoarse throat.
-You
must be thirsty. Here, have a glass.” She said, pouring me a cup of water before handing it to me carefully.
I drank the water slowly, feeling the way it was soothing my throat. But I had questions that were bubbling in my vocal box and they needed answers right away. So the moment I finished drinking the water, I shot my first question.
“What happened to me? And how many days have I been here?” inquired, but I asked another question before she could reply.
“Where is my husband?”
“Mrs Chad, please try to remain calm. All your questions will be answered but the doctor needs to come give you a quick check–up. We need to ensure that you are alright.” She explained and I slowly nodded my head even though curiosity was killing me from the inside.
“Okay. But please hurry.” I said before the nurse slipped out of the room with a polite smile. I just wish I could see everyone already and assure them that everything was alright and if it is all good, it will be fine soon.
The doctor came in not long after and did all the necessary check–ups he was supposed to do. But the moment he finished doing all of that, I began my inquiries instantly,
“Doctor, what happened to me, and am I fine?” I asked and he smiled warmly but in a polite way.
“Yes, Mrs Chad, everything is fine with you. You were just too shocked and tired. But it took a huge toll on you and you had to rest for two days.” The doctor calmly explained and my entire worries were suddenly submerged.
“Thank you. So what about my husband and my family!” I asked.
“They will come in once we are done here.” He answered, and I nodded in understanding, not wanting to ask any more questions.
All I wanted was to see them and hold them tightly so that I could feel a whole lot better being away from them physically.
And the moment the doctor opened the door, Charlie and Damien rushed inside and ran towards me still sitting on the bed waiting for them.
