“Please!” Nola resolved the tense scene easily. She didn’t need any men’s help. Everyone present looked at her admiringly.

Janie was startled just now. She came to Nola and asked, “What happened just now? I shouldn’t have walked away and left you alone.”
Nola shook her head and told her she was fine. Things happened. If someone wanted to cause trouble for her, they would do it no matter what. Even if Janie had stayed, things would not have changed.
