Chapter 8
“You never brought a girl with you, I don’t want to push you too hard, but I don’t want you to miss a good girl. I like Nola a lot. The Grayson family needs a sensible, innocent, and kind daughter–in–law. Her ability is not the key point. I’ll be happy for you if you meet someone you love.”
“Grandma, you overthought it.”
“I don’t know how long I still have. It’s my only wish to see you find the woman who can keep you company for the rest of your life!” Old Mrs. Grayson couldn’t help but cough. Elvis immediately patted her back with a frown.
“Sensible, innocent, and kind? Her acting skills are not bad. Grandma is easily deceived by her, thought Elvis.
“Grandma, you’ve just known her for a couple of hours. It’s too decisive to judge what kind of person she is.”
“I’ve been there. I trust my gut. You are free to make your decisions. I just think… it’s time for you to get married.”
Getting out of the ward, Elvis glanced at the girl trembling in the corridor. He only noticed now that she was still in a flimsy dress in early winter.
Yet he didn’t show any pity for her. As an adult, she should put on more clothing when the temperature gets lower. And she made his grandmother like her so soon, which proved that Nola was not an unsophisticated girl. Elvis passed by Nola with a cold face and said to her, “Let’s go.
Nola followed him but said nothing.
She had shown her ability to Elvis, and she should leave more space for him to think it over.
None of them spoke in the RV, and the silence and suppression aura once again filled the RV. Sitting beside Elvis, Nola could clearly feel his cold vibe.
She had no idea where she could go, but she told the driver, “Please stop at the square ahead. Mr. Grayson, hope you can take serious consideration of the thing I told you.”
Nola wrote down her contact on a note before she got out of the car. It was her only chance, though she wasn’t sure if she would make it.
Seeing the car galloping away, she took a few cold breaths in the wind and sneezed twice. She had done everything she could. If she still couldn’t change her destiny, she could only… take her mother away from the Grant family.
No matter what things turned out, she’d never yield to her family!
Nola turned around and strode away with a firm thought in her mind.
She didn’t want to face her disgusting family. Before she got the feedback from Elvis, she could only lodge at her best friend’s. Returning from work at this late hour, Linda saw a familiar figure standing outside her apartment. She hurried to Nola and was about to take off her coat for Nola, yet Nola stopped Linda.
Nola forced a smile at Linda.
“I’m good.” Her lips had turned ghastly pale in the piercing wind, but she still claimed that she wasn’t cold. Linda’s eyes suddenly turned red hearing what Nola said.
“What’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you call me?” Linda said in a choked voice. She thought God was unfair. Nola was such a kind girl, but why was her life full of ups and downs?
“I have to stay at your place for some days. Look. I brought this for you!”

Chapter 8
It took Nola two whole hours to get to Linda’s place on foot. She saved the cab fees and bought the Chocolate Bread Pudding.
After entering the house, Nola felt better, even if without heating. Linda took Nola to take a shower, and Nola’s pale face finally looked better.
“How did you reduce to such a state during a short day?” Linda asked Nola with her eyes red. Nola gave Linda a bright smile and said in a proud tone what she had done today.
Telling the whole story, Nola couldn’t even believe that it was the fact. Linda was totally amazed, and she sighed, “Sis, you are amazing! But have you made up your mind to give up your life happiness for your mother?”
“I don’t have another choice.”
Nola told Linda about her father’s decision. Hearing that, Linda immediately got furious. “Damn it! You are his daughter! How could he do this to you?!” After learning about the whole story, Linda eventually understood why Nola made such a decision.
But if she were Nola, she would never have had the courage to turn to Elvis.
“Babe, you just put yourself on the trading market, huh? But it’s not sure if you’ll meet a good buyer.”
Nola shrugged and started to enjoy the sweet dessert. She said to Linda, “I’ll treat you to the best dishes in the world when I get rich!”
“Deal! I’ll resign and rely on you!”
“Deal!” The two girls were immersed in their beautiful imaginations. It was a promising future, and everything would smoothly. When people were desperate, they needed more hope to support themselves moving forward.

The Chocolate Bread Pudding satisfied the two innocent girls. They hugged each other and had a sound sleep. Before they went to bed, Nola promised Linda that she’d move out of the Grant family the next day.
Nothing in that house deserved her to stay any longer.
Nola promised Old Mrs. Grayson that she would pay more visits to her. But if Elvis didn’t agree with Nola’s proposal, she’d take her promise as a white lie.
The next morning. Nola was refreshed when she got up, and she wasn’t so hopeful about Elvis‘ reply. How could such a powerful man agree with her ridiculous proposal that easily? Nola thought she must be nuts to do so yesterday.
Taking everything out of the Grant family, Nola announced that she had completely cut off the relationship with the Grant family. From now on, she’d earn her own living.
What Linda said before she left was the only hope for Nola. “Don’t worry, hon. You still have me! Before you find a job, I’ll be responsible for the expenses of you and your mom. When you earn enough money, I’ll retire.”
Nola felt lucky that she had such a true friend by her side. She planned to start a new life by finding a new job. She would not work for the Apex Group.
The three–day deadline was approaching. Nola thought that her family should realize her choice when they found that all her belongings had been taken away, Nola felt like her future was as dark as night.
The sudden ring startled her. Looking at the unknown number on the screen, Nola picked it up after a short hesitation.
“It’s Elvis speaking. The familiar voice made Nola hold back her breath.
