At first, Aveline thought he agreed too quickly. When she pushed open the small gate and prepared to find Jamie, she was startled by the scenery in front of her.
The scenery was beautiful, with a clear blue sky, a deep blue sea, and lush green mountains. This was an island surrounded by the sea, as if it had been abandoned by the world.
So, he didn’t need to hold her hostage because there was no signal here. She could call out to the heavens,
but they wouldn’t respond; she could call out to the earth, but it wouldn’t listen. As long as they didn’t
have any intention of harming Jamie, Aveline didn’t think of doing anything dangerous.
The moment the wooden door was pushed open, Jamie was crawling on the ground, chasing after a little
cat.
His clothes were already covered in dirt, but he looked exceptionally happy, still giggling. He was making
“meow” sounds.
“This child doesn’t have the temperament of someone that is rich at all. He’s quite obedient, I quite like
him,”
Aveline said as she rushed towards Jamie, who also opened his arms happily and called out, “Mommy.”
Jack was confused, “Is this really not your child?”
Aveline felt a bit sad and said, “He’s young, he calls anyone ‘mommy.”
“That’s not necessarily true. Auntie was afraid he was hungry and kindly fed him milk, but he didn’t even
look at it,” Jack explained.
Aveline remembered that this child seemed to have called her “mommy” the first time they met. She
wondered if her own child had reincarnated into his body, which was why they were so affectionate
towards each other.
Aveline held the child tighter and kissed his cheek twice, saying, “As long as you’re fine.”
“Don’t worry, we didn’t mistreat him. I even stole a small cake, but I couldn’t bear to eat it myself, so I fed
it to him,” Jack said.

Aveline had a good understanding of their living conditions. There were no basic facilities on the island, no electricity, no internet, and no signal. They only had solar panels that they bought from the outside world, which provided limited electricity for lighting at night. While Aveline was deep in thought, Jamie suddenly turned red. Aveline, who had never taken care of a child before, asked worriedly, “What’s wrong with you?”
Jamie seemed to be exerting force, and the next second, Aveline felt warmth in her palm and smelled a
foul odor.
“Oh dear, the little one made a stinky mess,” Jack pinched his nose, his hat was even deformed.
Amelia also came out from the side, “Miss, give him to me, I’ll wash his bottom.”
Aveline instinctively didn’t want to hand the child over, “I’ll do it.”
Amelia poured hot water into the basin, and Aveline clumsily washed the child. Jamie didn’t show any impatience, instead, he happily laughed while lying on her lap.
After washing, Amelia used a piece of cloth cut from her clothes to dry Jamie and put on a diaper for him.
Amelia, who was in her fifties, had white hair, rough fingers, and a face full of wrinkles, but she had a kind and awkward smile, “Miss, please don’t mind. We don’t have those fancy things from the city, so we can only use cloth as a substitute.”
Jack had already taken off his hat, revealing a handsome face. He solemnly explained, “Amelia was afraid of hurting the little one, so she cut up her own warm clothes. You should know that Amelia only has one set, and it was a gift from the boss on her birthday.”
Aveline looked at the floral diaper that had turned yellow from washing, feeling a complicated mix of
emotions.
