When Aveline mentioned that person, her voice was calm, as if she had already come to terms with it.
But Ryan knew very well that one couldn’t simply come to terms with having truly loved someone. She had only hidden her wounds, and would lick them when no one was around.
Ryan didn’t ask much, but changed the tople, “I know you haven’t paid for your father’s surgery yet. Consider it a friendly loan from me. You can repay me later.”
He knew that Aveline, a young girl, had a hard time earning money. He had wanted to help her on several occasions, but Aveline had always refused.
Aveline shook her head once again this time, “I don’t need it, Ryan.”
“Aveline, your father’s illness is serious. Are you willing to endure the humiliation from that scoundrel rather than accept my help? I don’t have any conditions, I just want to help you. You kn
my family might not be as wealthy as the Sterling family, but this money is nothing for me. Don’t burden yourself with guilt.”
Aveline held the cup in her hands and looked at him slowly. Her face was pale, and it was heartbreaking
to see her like this.
“Ryan, I know you’re a good person, but… I have no future.”
Whether it was this relationship or the money, she couldn’t repay either.
As the IV bag was running low, Aveline decisively pulled out the needle without using a cotton swab to stop the bleeding, and fresh blood flowed.
She nonchalantly put on her coat and said, “Ryan, you don’t need to worry about the money. As long as I get the divorce certificate from him, he will give me the ten million dollars I asked for. My dad had surgery yesterday, so I’m going to the hospital to see him.”
Her stubborn nature was evident.
Even her mentor had expressed regret during their dinner, saying, “What a promising talent she was, but it’s a shame. I wonder who influenced her.”
Perhaps sensing that he was about to offer her a ride, Aveline raised her phone and said, “My car is here.”

Blocking Ryan’s path.
As she put on her coat and her hand touched the doorknob, Ryan asked, “Aveline, have you ever regretted giving up everything to marry him?”
Regret?
He had caused her family to suffer like this, her father had been traumatized, and their lovely child was
gone.
She should have regrets, but every time she closed her eyes, she could picture the man who had saved her from last love trap, the same young man in black she had once seen at the weeding.
She forced back her tears and said, “No, I don’t regret it.”
With a click, the door closed, and Ryan watched her walk away, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
At the hospital, Anthony was still in the ICU, and she could only watch from a distance. The questions she
wanted to ask were stuck in her throat.
In her memory, Anthony was a humble and gentleman. Before her parents‘ divorce, they never had a serious argument.
Even when Elizabeth left all those years ago, he never remarried. He spent all his free time with her.
Alexander mentioned her father every time they ate together, which showed that he didn’t hold any grudges against her.
When they were together, she had heard that he had a sister who went missing when she was a child, and his mother had become mentally unstable after that.
What did the missing sister have to do with her father?
Aveline decided to start investigating the people around her father. She went to visit Driver Joshua and Steward Jacob early in the morning.
Strangely, these people who had been with her father for a lifetime either had strange accidents or were unreachable abroad.
The only person who knew the truth, her father, was still unconscious. She felt like a headless fly, wandering through the night.

Aveline couldn’t find any information from her side of the family, so she immediately turned her attention to Alexander’s driver, Lucas, and his assistant, Jordan.
She looked at her watch; it was only seven o’clock. At this time, they should be on their way to pick up Alexander. Aveline called Jordan.
Fortunately, after a few rings, he answered. He was as polite as ever, saying, “Madam.”
Hearing this long–lost address, Aveline suppressed the bitterness in her heart and said, “Jordan, I’ve made an appointment with Alexander for a divorce. Can you pick me up?”
The other person fell silent. They, like Alexander, didn’t like surprises.
Aveline quickly added, “Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have any other intentions. I’m just afraid that there might be another accident today that delays our divorce. My father hasn’t woken up yet, and the medical expenses haven’t been settled. L…”
In terms of personal relationships, she got along well with the two Hills, and she had never mistreated them. So when she showed a bit of vulnerability, Jordan agreed, “Madam, where are you? I’ll come over right away.”
Aveline gave them the address closest to their location. This place was on the way to Noble Springs
Residence, where Nora lived.
Although Aveline was unwilling to admit it, Alexander had been photographed several times by the media staying there. He must have spent those months away from her here.
“Sorry, Madam, we’re about to reach Cedar Road. It might take us twenty minutes to get to you. Is that okay?” Jordan asked.
“Okay,” Aveline replied, surprised. Cedar Road? That was near Sterling’s residence. They didn’t live
together?
Aveline quickly pushed that thought aside. Whether they lived together or not was none of her business.
Lucas arrived quickly, and Jordan, as usual, opened the car door respectfully, “You’ve waited for a long time, Madam.”
Aveline nodded as she got in the car, “It wasn’t a long wait.”
Compared to Jordan’s calm demeanor, Lucas was more lively, “Madam, how come you’re not sleeping in

on such a cold day? The roosters haven’t even crowed yet.”
Jordan glared at him, and Lucas quickly intercepted, “Madam, I used to think that Mr. Sterling suddenly. changed his mind because of Nora. Now I think it’s not just about a woman. You’ve been with him, and you should know about his sister.”
“Squeak!”
The car suddenly braked, and Lucas moved his hand away from the steering wheel. He hurriedly raised his hand, “Madam, please don’t say anything outrageous.”
Jordan calmly replied. “Madam, you know that Mr. Sterling’s affairs are off–limits for us. We don’t know much even if we wanted to. Please understand.”
Aveline covered her face with her hands, tears slipping through her fingers. “I know I’m putting you in a difficult position, but I’m at my wit’s end. Alexander won’t talk, my father just had surgery and hasn’t woken up. and the Blackwood family has fallen apart. All the leads have gone cold. Even if it costs me my life. I just want to know the truth rather than being tormented by him day and night.‘
“Madam, Miss Sterling’s matters are a forbidden zone for Mr. Sterling. We don’t know much even if we
wanted to.”
Seemingly aware that Aveline was going to continue pleading, Jordan wrote down a series of addresses on a piece of paper, “Madam, for the sake of our past acquaintance, I can only help you this far.”
