Aveline hoped to see some clues on their faces, but both of them had cold and decisive personalities, only giving a simple greeting before diving into their work.
Aveline rubbed her wrist, could it be that she guessed wrong?
She wasn’t in a hurry. She decided to start from Lydia, the secretary who had entered the office
earlier, and moved to stand beside her.
Lydia’s attitude towards her was not warm, nor was it dismissive. Aveline had been shuttling
between everyone for nearly two hours and hadn’t noticed anything wrong.
Working until nine o’clock, Jordan finally let them go.
As soon as Edith finished work, her stiff face instantly broke into a smile, hands on her waist, and
she called a friend while apparently heading to a bar, asking them to save her a seat.
Seeing Aveline sizing her up, Edith raised her chin lightly, “Want to come? There’s a new bar with lots of handsome guys, a welcome party for you.”
Aveline didn’t expect this person to be so presumptuous, and waved her hand, “No need, I still have some documents to organize, I haven’t even memorized Mr. Sterling’s preferences yet.”
As Edith spoke, she had already hurriedly left in a flurry of activity. Liam supported her forehead and explained to Aveline, “Stay away from her, she’s either flirting with young guys every day or hooking up with older men, don’t let her lead you astray.”
Aveline smiled awkwardly and looked at Lydia’s face.
Her face was not outstanding, a world of difference from Edith’s charming appearance.
Like the student in class who wore glasses, plain–looking, but always in the top ten academically.
Lydia was tidying up her things methodically, very organized, her desk neatly arranged, seeming a bit obsessive, every document had to be placed neatly.

Sensing her gaze, Lydia looked up, her eyes behind the lenses meeting Aveline’s, her voice devoid of any emotion, like an expressionless robot.
Despite the lack of any fluctuations, Aveline felt a chill down her spine.
Aveline wore a harmless smile on her face, “Lydia, I just think your earring looks really nice, so I looked at it a bit more. Where did you buy it?”
The earring was the only accessory on Lydia–small, a rose with a diamond in the middle shining brightly.
“This was customized by Mr. Sterling as a year end bonus two years ago,” Lydia replied calmly.
“I see, then I’ll work hard to try and get a year–end bonus this year too,” Aveline said, raising her fist.
Lydia glanced at her, picked up her bag, and left. Liam mentioned to Aveline, “Don’t think too much, she’s always been cold.”
Aveline gently asked, “So Lydia has always had this kind of temperament?”
“Yeah, she hasn’t smiled much since she started, although she’s cold, her work efficiency is good.”
After chatting for a few more minutes, Aveline was the last one to leave the office.
She didn’t go far, waiting in the underground parking lot.
Alexander rolled down the car window and coldly said, “Get in.”
Aveline returned to the Sterling Mansion with him, an experience they had never had in their many years of acquaintance.
On the way, Aveline had a lot on her mind. The personalities of the people in the secretary’s office were all different, and everyone seemed to have a problem.
“Do you regret it?” Alexander had been tapping on his notebook since getting in the car, and rarely looked up to show concern for her.
He pushed up the silver wire–framed glasses on his nose, “It’s not too late to regret now.”
