Maya’s first reaction upon seeing Alexander was to shrink her neck. Despite her boldness at the dinner table earlier, it was mainly because of the alcohol and the presence of Aveline.
She had witnessed Alexander’s doting on Aveline, and the more he doted on her, the more ruthless he
was to outsiders.
She still remembered two years ago when she took Aveline to a bar. Alexander personally came to pick
her up
and gave her a cold glance when Aveline wasn’t paying attention, leaving her with four words.
“No next time.”
After he left, she was drenched in cold sweat and had nightmares for several days, all featuring
Alexander’s eyes.
“Click.”
He closed the lighter cap and looked at her indifferently. That feeling of being dominated by his gaze
washed over her once again.
Maya swallowed her saliva and lowered her voice, Um, Mr. Sterling. I’m looking for Aveline. I won’t disturb you.”
Alexander flicked the cigarette ash casually and glanced at her sideways. “Want to chat?”
Maya didn’t think Alexander wanted to catch up with her. She was resistant all over. “My mom said good girls should be home before dark. Maybe next time, definitely next time.”
After saying that, Maya planned to run away, but she accidentally bumped into another wall of flesh. Jordan, who she used to call Alexander’s henchman in private.
“Miss Anderson, please.”
Maya felt like crying but had no tears. A few minutes later, she was led to a nearby cafe.
Even though she was sitting down, her legs never stopped shaking, causing the coffee on the table to ripple along with her.
Alexander had originally intended to pour the coffee, but seeing the latte art on the coffee being distorted by her shaking, his outstretched hand froze in mid–air.

There was a hint of awkwardness in the air. Maya forced a polite smile, feeling embarrassed. She doggedly handed the coffee cup to him, “Please, Mr. Sterling”
After doing all this, she cursed herself in her heart for succumbing to her professional habits again.
After she handed him the coffee, the atmosphere became even more awkward. Alexander put the coffee aside and spoke. “I want to know about Aveline and Ryan.
Maya didn’t know that Alexander was sick, but she knew that he was possessive. He was still investigating her current situation with her ex–husband, which clearly showed that he still had lingering feelings for
her.
Maya immediately replied. “Ryan seems to have feelings for Aveline, but Aveline has no interest in him. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have put in so much effort to match them up.”
Alexander’s gaze towards her noticeably turned colder when he heard the words “match them up.” Maya looked at him with a submissive expression, shrinking her neck and cautiously looking at him.
“Um… Mr. Sterling, you wouldn’t… still have feelings for Aveline, right?”
This question clearly touched on his forbidden territory. He didn’t answer, but his index finger lightly tapped on the table. The atmosphere became even more tense.
Maya bit her lip and added, “They haven’t progressed to anything. Aveline has been feeling down since her divorce and hasn’t left the house for many days. I asked her to come out today to relax. As for Ryan’s appearance, it was arranged by the class monitor and has nothing to do with Aveline.”
Alexander remained silent, his eyes as deep as a black hole. Maya felt her heart trembling, unable to discern his thoughts.
She couldn’t figure out how Aveline got along with him. This person was completely inscrutable, unable
to reveal his emotions.
“If you don’t believe me, I can swear that if there’s anything between Aveline and Ryan, I’ll let a car run me over when I go out.”
Alexander raised an eyebrow but didn’t react further. Maya gritted her teeth and added. “Then I’ll be single for the rest of my life.”

Alexander added. “And be penniless for the rest of your life.”
