Chapter 9
Mers
“No matter how hard you try, it’s useless. My parents, even Bastian, will always give me what I want. You’ve never had that, have you, Sister?”
Quilla Lewis laughed, a chilling malice in her eyes.
“I wonder if you’ll even be alive to see me on that runway after my surgery.”
She knew everything.
I looked at her coldly.
“Even if you get on stage, with your skills, you’ll just be a joke.”
Her face darkened.
With no one around, her mask slipped.
She sneered, “Instead of worrying about me, worry about your best friend. I heard she’s in trouble.” My face paled.“What do you mean?”
Quilla Lewis feigned innocence.“You don’t know? Your dear Candy came to me, all snarky. I just told Dad I didn’t like her, and he seems to have sent someone after her.
It might be difficult, but you know Dad’s methods. He’ll pin some tax evasion charge on her. She won’t be out for ten or eight years.”
I couldn’t control myself, slapping her.
“You’re insane! Why are you targeting my friend?!”
Quilla Lewis laughed unconcernedly.
“Why do you care about her? You don’t have much left for me to target, so I’ll just go after her.
Blame yourself. You’re the one who got your friend into trouble. What does it have to do with me?”
She laughed innocently, hiding a chilling cruelty.
I raised my hand, but before it landed, I was shoved back.
Bastian Hanson arrived, furiously shielding Quilla Lewis.
“What are you doing?!”
He glared at me, his eyes blazing.“What did Quilla do to you? Why are you attacking her again?”
Quilla Lewis started sobbing dramatically. “Bastian, it’s not Sister’s fault. I said something wrong.”
“It’s okay if Sister hits me. I don’t hurt.”
She suddenly pretended to have trouble breathing, as if she were dying.
Bastian Hanson’s face was grim.
“Are you insane?! Why did you attack Quilla? Look what you’ve done to her!”
I ignored him.
I had only one thought: calling Candy to warn her.
But Bastian Hanson knocked my phone out of my hand.
“Do you even have a heart? You’re playing with your phone at a time like this! Quilla’s condition can’t be agitated!”
My phone shattered on the floor.
It was completely dead.

He ignored me, grabbing my hand.
“Quilla’s condition has worsened. We need to operate immediately.”

I saw Quilla Lewis gasping for air, clutching his sleeve, but her eyes gleamed with triumphant malice.
It was all an act.
I broke free, heading for the nurses‘ station to borrow a phone, but Bastian Hanson seized me, his grip powerful, preventing any resistance.
