Chapter 20
Seeing Shannon remaining unfazed, Camilla looked at her, feeling both helpless and disdainful. “Shannon, will you just stop. hunting us
Arching an eyebrow, Shannon met her gaze.
Camilla continued softly, “Since you came back, you snatched Miriam’s fiancé, beat up Dudley, and pissed Lincoln off so much. Don’t you think it’s time to stop? What else do you want?”
Shannon’s face turned instantly colder. She thought, “What was expecting? I’m so stupid. Camilla is my mom, and I thought no matter what, she loved me deep down. I was so wron
She looked at Camilla, her gaze filled with disappointment. “Mr Lane, are you saying that you and your family can pick on me however you want, and I’m just supposed to be a pushover, enduring any suffering without fighting back?”
Feeling a bit guilty under Shannon’s gaze, Camilla blinked and looked away. “No one has ever picked on you. Shannon, don’t be so petty. We’re your family, and we’ll never do anything to hurt you.”
“Seriously?” Shannon sneered, staring at Camilla, “You really dont feel guilty at all when saying this?”
Disappointed, Camilla spoke, “I know you’re jealous of Miriam. I gave birth to you and raised her, and you’re both my daughters. Why do you have to compete with her?”
“Getout.” Shannon was completely disheartened.
“What did you say?” Camilla was stunned, pulling a long face. “You let me down, Shannon Lincoln is right. You’re so ungrateful, selfish, and mean. I regret so much giving birth to you. How I wish you could be half as considerate as Miriam.”
“The fact is, you don’t get to be her mother. A stern voice rang out all of a sudden; in the next second, Audrey walked in. followed by Megan, Celia, and Nicole, all looking livid.
Audrey looked at Shannon, feeling sorry for her deeply. Then she turned to Camilla, saying with complete disgust, “If I hadn’t come over today and overheard that, I wouldn’t have known how Shannon was treated by you and your family”
Camilla’s expression changed at once. Those words she said words to Shannon weren’t meant for others to hear, and now, she blushed, feeling embarrassed. “You…” She pretended that nothing had happened and gave a somewhat forced smile. “Mrs. Rowe, when did you get here?”
“As soon as you started to pick on Shannon,” Audrey said harshly, ignoring the awkwardness on Camilla’s face. Snorting, she continued, “Shannon is perfect. If you don’t want her as your family, we will. Now that you have severed ties, please stop pestering her.”
Camilla took a deep breath, barely collecting herself. “Mrs. Rowe, I was in a fit of pique, and I didn’t mean what I said. This is a family matter; perhaps you should stay out of it.”
