Chapter 0041
BEVERLY’S POV

I drum my fingers on the steering wheel as I walt, Impatience and annoyance colling Inside of me all at once like a venomous snake. It’s dark, eerily so. I hate the dark but I couldn’t care less at this moment since all my senses are busy catering to my pent–up rage to give a damn about my fear of dark places.
My car is parked beside an old and empty warehouse on the outskirts of the city. I am miles away from home and I had to tell a lie to Klan to be able to be here. Not like he cares anyway, he didn’t even bat an eyelid when I said I would be spending the night outside.
He has always been a workaholic but in the past few days, it’s like he is a machine running on an endless supply of gas and it doesn’t take a genius to know why he is like that. Which is also the same reason I am here.
I jump slightly when a short knock on my tinted car window resounds through the quiet night air. I unlock my car door after that and wait. Soon, the passenger door opens and someone slips in.
I turn my sharp and angry gaze towards the hulk of a man who covers the entire seat like a wall.
Did you see the news?” I ask as calmly as I can manage since what I really want to do is claw his eyes out and add to the scars on his face. The man looks at me with those dangerous eyes and just nods once.
I scoff, “One job. You had just one job, get rid of that pest and do a clean job while at it but you failed even after I paid you thrice the amount for such jobs because you moaned about how it’s an high–risk job! You called yourselves professionals.”
There are three of them and this one is the leader. This isn’t the first time they have worked for me but ‘this is the first time they have failed.
“I even did half of the work for you by getting her to go there yet you failed.”
I say, reminiscing how I had stolen Kian’s phone while he was in the bathroom and sent those texts that I deleted afterwards. It was that easy because the only place where Kian has passwords is his work phone
or computer.
“Trust me, ma’am, we did a clean job! The warehouse was halfway burnt when we left, no one could have survived that.” He says.
“Well, newsflash, she survived! Like the fucking pest she is, she survived.” I say in full–on rage now as I think about the events of the past month.
The men called me to tell me the job was successful, it was all over the news, Kian was devastated but I was determined to help him get over it, his mother was more than happy to see me again after three years. Everything was going well! Imagine my shock when I saw HER, Leslie.
I saw when she entered the plaza that night, arms interlocked with Kian’s annoying uncle who is doing a terrible job at hiding his feelings for her by the way. I thought I’d seen a ghost until I saw her interaction with Kian.
Somehow, she survived and made a fool out of everyone. Made a fool out of me and got the backing of a powerful man while at it. I still can’t wrap my head around how she managed to do it but it makes me boil with rage anytime I think about it.

Chapter 0041
I’ve done so much to keep her away. I thought Klon was still so hung up on me since he couldn’t stop talking about how much he hates his marriage and wife when he got drunk the night I returned to the country.
It was the perfect opening for me and I took advantage of his state and the result of that is the baby growing inside of me. I had him where I wanted him but I realized I was wrong when Leslie asked for a divorce. That was the plan all along–strain their relationship even more and break them up–but it backfired because Kian refused to accept it.
At first, I thought it was because of his ego but I soon painfully realized that he doesn’t hate his wife as much as he claims, he just doesn’t know it. And then, he treated me like a freaking mistress.
How could I just sit and accept that when Leslie’s place was supposed to be mine in the first place? I had to get rid of her somehow but this morons fucked that up for me and now, even with them finally divorced, I can’t help but think about what it would cost me if they get caught and the truth is revealed.
I am yet to get what I want so I can’t let that happen.
I toss him a paper bag and he looks inside of it before looking back at me, eyes wide.
“That’s a card to a bank I opened as well as the bank book. And other important details. There’s half a million dollars stashed in it. Take your men and get out of the city before the end of the week.” I say. He offers me a sly smile and nods without hesitation
“Yes, ma’am“”
He starts to open the door but I stop him.
“You can’t get caught,” my voice trembles, “You hear me? You can’t get caught.”
He nods once again and steps out of the car. I start the engine immediately and drive the car out of there. With the men gone, I will be able to focus. Leslie is a pest, has always been since she was just a mere secretary. She managed to get to the top but that doesn’t mean I won’t bring her down.
Later, I tell myself. For now, she is out of my way and I have a smooth path ahead of me as long as the secrets I keep locked away never break through their hold, as long as Kian is mine and mine alone.
