Chapter 14
Bang, bang, bang.
Listening to the urgent knocking sound outside the door, Liam put down the half–peeled fruit in his hand and glanced at Ruth who was taking a shower in the bathroom. He got up and walked to the
door.
As the door was pulled open, Garrett’s face, filled with extreme anxiety, came into view, with a hint of intriguing expression flickering in his eyes.
“Who are you?”
Garrell’s
mind and eyes were filled with only one thing finding Ruth. He didn’t even bother to look at anyone and was about to barge into the living room.
“Make way!”
Watching his impatient movements, Liam held a fruit knife in his hand, wiped his eyes with it, and crossed in front of him, blocking his way.
“This is a private residence, if you insist on breaking in, you will have to bear the consequences.”
Seeing the sharp blade in between, Garrett finally regained some sanity.
He took two steps back, lifted his incredibly gloomy eyes, and spoke with a hidden anger in his tone.
“This is my house! You are the one who trespassed into the residence, right? Who are you?”
This question really struck a chord with Liam.
He curved a shallow smile at the corner of his mouth, with a pleasant expression on his face as if bathed in the spring breeze.
“This was my fiancée’s home.”
Upon hearing these words, Garrett was completely stunned.
He lifted his head and glanced at the door number on the wall, then looked at the person in front of him. It was only then that he realized he seemed to have seen this person somewhere before.
It seems that the male protagonist in the marriage proposal video….
So, was he Ruth’s friend’s fiancé?
But the house was indeed under Ruth’s name, did she give it to a friend?
Garrett’s mind was filled with countless thoughts, but he couldn’t make sense of them. In the end, he decided to be straightforward and ask a clear question.

“Who was your fiancée?”
Liam was waiting for this question.
He took back the dagger, gently blowing away the dust on it, and looked at Garrett with a sideways glance..
The eyes were filled with undisguised pride and joy.
“It is just…”
“How come you are here?”
Upon hearing Ruth’s voice, both of them turned around.
Liam instantly retracted his previously arrogant demeanor and became as docile as a cat with
trimmed claws.
“Ruth, this person suddenly barged into the house, I reckon he was probably a thief, should I just call the police?”
His face changed faster than flipping through a book, leaving Garrett completely stunned.
As soon as he caught her gaze, he instantly snapped out of it and hastily called out, “Ruth.”
Ruth never expected that she would encounter a battlefield when she came out of the shower and
ran into her ex–husband and fiancé.
She wiped the water droplets off her hair and walked to the door, her voice faint.
“What are you here for? Didn’t I say to contact my lawyer if there’s anything:
Just one sentence extinguished the light in Garrett’s eyes.
He appeared visibly dejected, with a face full of panic and confusion, and his voice carried a sense of
urgency.
“Ruth, I feel like there were some misunderstandings between us. Can we talk about it?”
Ruth furrowed her brows slightly.
She didn’t reply to him, but instead turned her head to look at Liam first, her tone softened a bit.
“Do you want to make chicken soup? Go ahead, I’ll come and help you after I finish my work.”
Upon hearing these words, Liam’s face also drooped, and he reluctantly shook his head.
“This p
person doesn’t seem like a good person at all, I’m worried about you…”
Ruth didn’t give him a chance to finish speaking, she pushed him a few steps inside and then closed the door, before turning around to look at Garrett, her tone becoming icy again.
