Chapter 17
Dragging her still unhealed body, with a swollen face, Anne waited outside the villa all night, but she couldn’t get in.
The chilly autumn wind blew away a lot of her anger and resentment. When dawn broke, she started to have a fever again, sobbing and crying uncontrollably, occasionally sending Garrett a pitiful
message.
He did not reply at all.
The tightly closed gate finally opened until noon the next day.
The noise of the door opening woke up Anne, who was sleeping lightly. She groggily opened her eyes and saw Garrett about to get in the car. She quickly struggled to stand up and grabbed his hand.
Those once endearing eyes were filled with a pool of tears, their voice filled with utmost sorrow.
“Garrett, look at my face, it’s all bruised from Ruth’s punches. She even said that if I dare to
complain to you, she will teach me a lesson. Sob, sob, sob.”
Garrett gave her a cold glance, devoid of the previous indulgence and indulgence in his tone.
“If I hit her, I hit her. Shouldn’t you be the one suffering? You are not allowed to disturb her again in
the future, do you hear me?”
His indifferent attitude was far from what Anne had imagined.
She stood there frozen. Her face filled with disbelief.
“Garrett, what’s wrong with you? Why would you say such things? Didn’t you say you would always.
comfort me?”
Listening to her deliberately squeezed out sob, a hint of disgust flashed in Garrett’s eyes, and he directly pushed her away by pulling out his hand.
“I was just teasing you. Did you really take it seriously? Anne, you didn’t actually think I liked you, did you? It was all just a game, the only person I’ve ever liked, from beginning to end, is Ruth!”
One sentence completely shattered Anne’s hopeful heart.
She found it hard to accept this fact and couldn’t pretend to be pitiful anymore. She couldn’t help
but roar.
like
“Did you deceive me? Did you deceive me, Garrett? You better understand that the person you should be me! If you truly like Ruth, why didn’t you react at all when I hit her? Why did you abandon her countless times and stay by my side?”
Upon hearing these words, Garrett involuntarily clenched his fists, feeling an uncontrollable surge

of heat in his heart.
Many images flashed rapidly through his mind,
The drowning by the bridge, the calendar in the villa, the dispute at the auction house…..
In every scene, he could see Ruth’s lonely and desolate figure, along with her undisguised look of disappointment.
It was not until Garrett completely lost it that he realized, in hindsight, how much he had crossed the line with the things he had done.
Regret surged over him like a tidal wave, completely engulfing his entire being
He didn’t want to hear Anne mention these old things again, but she kept talking incessantly like a floodgate had been opened.
“Even if you were just pretending, Garrett, you have already gotten into the role now. The person you like definitely wouldn’t be Ruth, otherwise why would you agree to get a divorce? Isn’t it because you have feelings for me?”
The two words “divorce” brought back those cruel facts that Garrett had temporarily forgotten.
All his rationality collapsed and dissipated in that moment.
He couldn’t control himself anymore, and he grabbed Anne’s thin neck, causing his hand to become swollen and congested due to excessive force.
Soon, the redness spread from her neck to her face and gradually turned into a dark purple color.
Anne struggled hard, but she couldn’t resist the brute force and could only widen her eyes, feeling the air in her lungs gradually leaving her.
Just when she thought she was going to die here today, Garrett finally withdrew his hand.
She collapsed to the ground like a fragile doll on the verge of breaking.
Garrett did not look at her again and handed it directly to the secretary to handle.
“I didn’t want to see her appear in front of me again.”
