Chapter 17
Ever since Melvin’s confession was interrupted by Emma who went home, she has been trembling, with fear for several days, afraid of accidentally running into Melvin.
Her explanation was, “Melvin confessed his feelings for me for the first time, but it ended in failure. After so many years, I finally had another chance, but I ruined it again. Now, he probably hates me so much that he wants to strangle me alive!”
Carissa found it funny when she heard it.
“How is that possible, Emma? You are his own sister, he wouldn’t get angry.‘
However, Emma’s expression was unusually serious.
“Carie, you don’t know that after he was rejected by you back then, he locked himself in his room
for three whole days. My dad and mom didn’t speak to each other for ages because of this. In the
end, he even came to my mom to persuade her. He really loved you, and all these years, there hasn’t
been any other woman by his side… Hey, I’m not implying anything by saying this. Whether or not
to accept him completely depends on whether you like him or not. Although I’m his younger sister,
I still fully respect your choice!”
“Of course, if I could get even closer to you, I would be even happier! Maybe in the future, I might
even have to call you sister–in–law…”
Leaving out the last sentence, Emma mischievously winked at her and pushed the door open,
slipping out.
Carissa could only manage a helpless smile.
In the past few days, she has also completed the formalities for joining Emma’s studio and officially
joined.
In order to adapt to the job as quickly as possible, sometimes she would voluntarily stay behind, after work to summarize the problems encountered during the work process.
She didn’t realize that it was pitch black around her until she finished work that day.
Carissa didn’t actually feel tired.
After all, she used to work for others as if she were a beast of burden. But in this studio, she was
considered a technical partner, and even working overtime was to earn money for herself.
She stretched and yawned, picked up her bag, and walked out of the office.
Just downstairs, I immediately noticed Melvin standing under the street lamp.
The man saw her and his eyes lit up. “Carie, let me take you home.”

Carissa glanced at the time and realized it was already close to ten o’clock, her expression couldn’t help but show a hint of surprise.
“Have you been waiting for me here all along?”
Melvin’s company is not close to here, it takes about half an hour to drive there.
Moreover, it was already ten o’clock, and Carissa didn’t think it would be so coincidental to pass by
here at this exact moment.
Melvin did not hide either, he explained with a smile.
“It was Emma who told me that you hadn’t gone back yet. I saw that it was too late, and it’s not safe for you to go home alone. Anyway, I didn’t have anything to do, so I decided to wait and accompany
you back on the way.”
Carissa did not refuse Melvin’s kindness.
Sitting in the car, Carissa’s mood was completely different from last time. She was no longer as
restrained and nervous.
The two of them even exchanged a few words without much substance.
Melvin was very happy with her changes.
I originally wanted to chat a bit more, but when I saw her tiredly yawn, I voluntarily stopped the
conversation.
“You take a rest first, I will call you when I get downstairs.”
Carissa responded softly.
Originally, she just wanted to close her eyes and take a rest, but unexpectedly, she somehow fell
asleep.
When she woke up groggily, she happened to meet Melvin’s eyes.
The two of them were very close, so close that she could see herself reflected in the man’s clean
eyes.
Her heart suddenly started to beat uncontrollably.
Melvin glanced at her lips, took a step back, and explained in a restrained and hoarse voice.
“I saw you were asleep and wanted to help you undo the seatbelt to make you more comfortable, but accidentally woke you up…”
Carissa lowered her eyes and nodded absentmindedly.
“Well, it’s getting late. You should go back early. See you tomorrow!”

She said, and then she frantically unbuckled her seatbelt, opened the car door, and got out.
Melvin in the car unconsciously smirked as he watched her figure disappear,
The evening breeze blew on her face, and Carissa finally calmed down.
To be honest, she actually didn’t dislike Melvin, and she even felt a slight sense of guilt towards him because of what had happened before.
But these were not enough to make her accept this new relationship.
Take it slow, everything went with the flow.
With this in mind, Carissa’s mood also lightened a bit.
However, as she stepped out of the elevator, she looked up and saw a figure crouching at the
entrance.
The memory of being kidnapped by Jared was instantly awakened, and she broke out in a cold sweat, without any hesitation, she lifted her leg and wanted to escape.
However, the next second, I was forcefully embraced by a man.
“Carie, I finally found you…”
