- Chapter 10

Kayson knew that Mrs. White meant well.
He also understood that his story with Luella had ended long ago, when he had angrily decided to marry someone else at that wedding.
In the past three years, he also tried to forget the past and live a good life with Greta.
But how could someone who has loved for eighteen years possibly say they can just let go?
So when Luella returned to her home country and repeatedly pestered him, he eventually gave in.
Even if we couldn’t become lovers, the bond of friendship was still there.
With this thought in mind, he indulged himself and went to her side again and again.
To be honest, whenever Luella cried and said she still loved him, his heart was touched.
But those moments, like ripples on a lake when the wind blows, quickly disappeared without a
trace.
He would always remember that Greta was his wife in the moment of imminent collapse.
Time and time again, he felt trapped as if he had fallen into a maze, unable to find a way out.
Until he heard these words, he gradually woke up as if he had been enlightened.
Remembering the figure of him leaving in the heavy snow early in the morning, a warm feeling
surged in Kayson’s heart.
He bowed deeply to Mrs. White, his voice sincere and heartfelt.
“Thank you for telling me all this, I understood.”
After leaving the hospital, Kayson returned to his old house.
His mother called him into the study, her tone unusually serious.
“When you got married, I felt that Greta’s background was not suitable for you, so I had some
objections towards her. But in these three years, seeing how she cares for you and keeps the house
in order, and how she takes care of us as well, I have gradually let go of those concerns.”
“You are not young anymore, and there are some things I don’t want to say anymore. Let the past be
the past, don’t hold onto it anymore. You have a good eye; you have chosen a great wife. It’s time to
settle down and live your life well.”
“Marriage is not like love, it is a bowl of finely simmered and slow–cooked porridge, emphasizing a teady and enduring flow. You and Greta didn’t have much emotional foundation before marriage, and you are so young. Many things need to be clarified in a timely manner to avoid accumulating

misunderstandings in your heart. Do you understand?”
Kayson didn’t expect his usually quiet and reserved mother to earnestly speak these words of family matters to him.
But he knew that his mother was right, so he humbly lowered his head.
“You are right, I know what to do now.”
Kayson’s mother nodded approvingly and then took out a box, pushing it forward.
“This is the bracelet that your grandmother gave me when I got married. Take it to Greta. Your father’s birthday is the day after tomorrow, remember to bring her back, and we can have a meal together as a family.”
Kayson opened the box and looked at the pair of emperor green bracelets inside. He was momentarily stunned.
Suddenly, he remembered the wedding three years ago that had caused quite a stir.
After Luella made a phone call and announced the cancellation of the wedding to the entire audience, both families and friends changed their expressions and immediately left the scene.
He stood alone in the center of the stage, picked up the microphone with a heart as lifeless as ashes, and released all the emotions that had been accumulated in his heart for a long time.
He himself didn’t know exactly what was said.
He didn’t come to his senses until Greta stood up, was pushed to the backstage by his impatient brothers, and returned to his sight.
“The Wedding March” played.
She put on the slightly oversized wedding dress and walked confidently towards him, step by step.
With him, we accepted the thousands of prying eyes below, watching the spectacle.
Fearless and never backing down.
Perhaps influenced by her determination, Kayson’s once lifeless heart gained some courage to take a desperate leap.
Although he did not know the name of his bride yet.

- But he had already made up his mind to treat the person who wore his ring on the pillow for the rest of his life.
Never to disappoint, she extended her hand during the darkest moment of his life.
