  • Chapter 14

Living room, bedroom, study, bathroom…

Kayson searched every corner of the house, but there was still no trace of Greta

The old butler, who had come upon hearing the noise, looked at his flustered and absentminded appearance, and finally managed to ask the question that had been stuck in his heart

Sir, why did you agree to divorce with your wife?”

Divorce

Upon hearing these two words, Kayson felt a whirlwind of emotions

He had never heard Greta mention this matter before, so why did everyone assume that he wanted

divorce

He desperately tried to recall everything that had happened during this period of time in his mind, attempting to find some clues

In the coffee shop, Cassia’s strange behavior, the plane ticket that I didn’t have time to examine closely, and the cryptic words she said this morning…

Did he get what he wanted a long time ago

As Kayson recalled the words he hadn’t had a chance to clarify, he became increasingly anxious

He sent his secretary to find out Greta’s whereabouts while he personally drove to search for her

He went to the old house where she used to live before getting married, but he only saw the sealed

doors and windows

The neighbors around told him that Greta came back yesterday and lost a lot of things, seeming like

she was about to go on a long journey.

The next second, the secretary’s message came through

Mr. Brady, I found out that Mrs. Brady bought a ticket to fly to Fieldhurst half a month ago. She departed this morning and should have arrived by now.”

So, Greta wasn’t planning to move away, but instead decided to go abroad

After realizing this, Kayson felt a chill in his heart

He couldn’t understand why Greta suddenly had the idea of divorce and left without any warning

Wasn’t it what she had always hoped for, to become his wife and stand by his side

After the secretary booked a ticket to Starryholt, Kayson returned to the caf

He did not drive, leaning back on the chair, staring blankly at the blocked chat interface

The phone, which had not been charged for a day, emitted a low battery warning. It opened the drawer and tried to take out the charging cable

The gaze swept over that file bag

This time, he finally opened the file that had been stored for a month

As soon as Kayson laid eyes on the words Divorce Agreement, his hand couldn’t help but tremble slightly

But he remained calm and continued flipping through the pages

Until the last page, he was stunned when he saw his own signature written above

Why did his signature appear on a divorce agreement

Why does he have no memory of signing at all

Kayson’s mind raced as he tried to piece together all the overlooked and forgotten details

The person who drafted this agreement was Greta

The only time she asked him to sign was on an evening a month ago. She said she wanted to give

him a gift, but he didn’t have time to look at it before signing and then left

Greta left this agreement in his car and reminded him many times to check it

It has been a whole month since the agreement took effect

But he never opened it once.

The light and fluttering dozen pages of paper, in Kayson’s hands, felt as heavy as a thousand

pounds

Until this moment, he finally understood why Greta had left

She noticed his wavering emotions in this marriage

She thought he would return to Luella and divorce her

So she chose to leave first

And that thing, which was labeled as a gift,is this divorce agreement

She decided to give him his freedom back

Decided to fulfill his longheld infatuation that he hadn’t let go of for many years
