Chapter 19
Greta didn’t really understand what Sharon meant.
She was a newcomer who had just joined the company not long ago, and she didn’t have much background or connections. What’s the point of having her involved in such an important project?
Just because she was Kayson’s ex–wife?
Greta could only think of one possibility.
Kayson didn’t like her either, so they got divorced decisively, and he never contacted her again
afterwards.
Why did Sharon think he would compromise for her?
To avoid unnecessary misunderstandings, Greta honestly told the truth.
“Sharon, I didn’t tell you before because I had already divorced, and I thought these things were irrelevant. But this project is of great importance, so I’ll be straightforward. Kayson and I were actually just a passing relationship, he didn’t like me, and we didn’t have any marital feelings. It’s better for us to part ways amicably. As far as I know, although he is very loyal, he still sticks to his principles when it comes to major issues. If you think bringing me along for the discussion will increase the chances of success, then I might have to pour cold water on you.”
Upon hearing the description of this marital status from another party, Sharon found it rather
peculiar.
She greeted Greta to sit down and couldn’t help but ask a question.
“Are you sure that Kayson had no feelings for you?”
Greta nodded quickly.
Looking at her confident expression, Sharon couldn’t help but recall the words Kayson had said before leaving Fieldhurst.
“Ms. Welch, Greta and I, in fact, were in a marital relationship, to be precise, we were currently going through a divorce. I didn’t do well in this marriage, and she was disappointed in me, so she asked for a divorce. Greta’s attitude was firm, and I didn’t want to trouble her, so I agreed.”
“But personally, I want to salvage this relationship, I just need some time to think it through. Greta definitely wouldn’t want to come back with me, could you please take care of her for a while? As a token of gratitude, I am willing to discuss the collaboration issues of the ‘RO‘ project with you.”
Although it has been a long time, Sharon still vividly remembers Kayson’s despondent look and
‘incredibly sincere tone.
She found it hard to believe that someone like Kayson would hand over a highly coveted project in
1/3
the IT industry, which countless major companies had been vying for, to his ex–wife, who he had no emotional attachment to.
But since Kayson mentioned that there were issues between him and Greta, she didn’t want to speculate too much and only sought Greta’s opinion in the end.
“Don’t worry too much about the project. With me around, you don’t have to think too much. The reason why I want to take you along is twofold: first, it’s for my own selfish reasons, and second, I want to give you some training. Just treat it as a regular business trip and handle it according to the established procedures, alright?”
Having been together for so long, Greta also knew that Sharon was straightforward and would not sabotage behind her back.
Moreover, this business trip was indeed a rare opportunity, and she didn’t want to miss it in vain.
So after thinking for a while, she finally agreed.
The time to return to the country was set for one week later.
Greta was busy working while she was packing her luggage.
As the return date approached, her mood became even calmer.
Looking back on the past, she only felt like it was just a dream.
Now that the dream has ended, she has also fully awakened and will no longer linger in the past.
As for Kayson, he simply returned to square one and became an old friend of a former classmate. She had already figured out how to get along with him when they meet again.
