Chapter 25
Almost at the same time, that familiar warmth returned to Finnian’s stomach, and the subtle scent of Amara’s perfume seemed to linger in the air once more.
Finnian, with his strikingly handsome features a bit shadowed, thought there was no need to make things hard on himself. He lifted his long, elegant hand to switch the cool water to warm, slowly reaching downward.
That night passed without incident, but as the morning light crept in, both of them felt a shift in the atmosphere. Something had changed.
The previous night, Finnian had been in the shower for ages. Amara, worried something might have happened, tiptoed to the bathroom door and heard low, rhythmic breathing.
Inside, there was a pause–he seemed to have sensed her presence. Startled, Amara quickly retreated, slipping back into bed.
Once there was a hint of entanglement between a man and a woman, things could never quite go back to how they were.
The next morning, at least on the surface, they maintained a facade of calm as they drove back to the Everly family estate.
Amara watched as Finnian stormed into Kevin’s study, slamming the door behind him. She wasn’t sure what exactly transpired inside. It was quiet at first, and then suddenly, a loud shout erupted, “Get out! Get the hell out!”
This was followed by a loud crash, as if something had been thrown. The door then flung open, and Finnian emerged with a cut on his forehead, a trickle of blood making it look more dramatic than it was.
He approached Amara with a brooding expression and declared, “We’re not waiting a month. We’re getting divorced now. I’ll have Will file the papers again.”
-Finnian had taken over the Everly Group after graduation, and on account of his excellence, his influence in
Wye had grown significantly, surpassing even that of Kevin.
He had previously agreed with his grandfather about waiting a month before finally getting divorced, not bringing himself to disappoint his grandfather, but now saw no need for it.
After delivering this cold statement, he didn’t notice the color draining from Amara’s face as he turned to leave. Kevin, leaning heavily on his cane, intercepted him, shouting, “Must you be so defiant? What’s so special about that actress? Even if she has the child, I won’t acknowledge it! No child of this family will come from a woman
like her!”
Finnian’s demeanor turned intimidating, his eyes darkening with a chilling intensity.
“I will decide whose child is mine, and you have no business worrying about it, Grandpa. It’s none of your concern who I’m with, either. You can’t meddle in it.”
“What do you mean? Are you insisting on being with that actress?”
“Stop calling her an actress like it’s an insult. She’s a professional. If you’re confused, look it up online. It’s good to keep your mind active as you age.”
“You ungrateful brat.”
Kevin swung his cane at him, the sound of wood striking flesh echoing through the room, making everyone tense. The maids nearby turned pale with fear, but Finnian stood firm, fists clenched, refusing to lower his head.
Once Kevin had exhausted his anger, Finnian’s face was ghostly pale. Sweat glistened on his forehead, and his shirt was faintly stained with blood at the back.
