Chapter 8 

Amara’s eyes widened in disbelief. 

Kevin had revoked her divorce agreement? That was quite the shocker! And in this day and age, why the bias against celebrities? They earned good money, after all. 

“Grandpa, please, don’t do this.” 

She approached him, saying, “Finnian and I should have informed you before deciding on the divorce. It was our fault, but we’ve thought this through. We’re just not meant to be together,” 

Saying that, she lowered her head, feeling a bit embarrassed. The truth was, she and Finnian weren’t incompatible–they had never even lived together. 

In the three years they had been married, Finnian hadn’t come home once, leaving her to live alone in the mansion. She had become the butt of jokes among the high society circles in Wye. 

Kevin knew all too well about her plight, and his tone softened as he took her hand. 

“Ama, it’s Finn who’s let you down. These three years have been tough on you, I know.” 

Every time Finnian’s long absences were mentioned either directly or subtly, Kevin looked genuinely remorseful. Amara pressed her lips together tightly, deciding not to defend Finnian in front of Kevin like she used to, and simply listened quietly. 

After Kevin had spoken his fill, she stepped into the hallway to call Finnian, intending to tell him about the revoked divorce agreement. 

But after dialing three times and receiving no answer, she had no idea what Finnian was up to. 

Amara pondered for a moment, deciding to speak with Kevin again to make it clear she truly really didn’t want to stay with Finnian. Just then, she received a call from an unfamiliar number. 

“Hello, who’s this?” 

The call was from Wye, so she figured it wasn’t a spam call and answered. To her surprise, it was Liliana. 

“Ms. Sullivan, it’s me. We met yesterday in front of CAVELLE at Luxora Square, do you remember?” 

The voice on the other end was soft and pleasant. Amara paused.

Yesterday, she had only met two people in front of CAVELLE–Finnian and Liliana. She hesitated briefly before responding, “Ms. Porter, is there something you need?” 

Liliana hadn’t directly introduced herself, opting for a more ambiguous approach. 

She had two reasons for doing this: referring to Amara as “Ms. Sullivan” without stating her own name established a subtle power play, as if she held the upper hand. 

Secondly, by intentionally obscuring her name, she indirectly masked her identity–not as an actress, but as someone close to Finnian. 

Being a screenwriter, Amara had a knack for understanding conversational psychology and saw through Liliana’s little tricks, though she didn’t let it show. She directly asked what Liliana wanted. 

Liliana said, “Finn mentioned you’re at home now. Let’s meet up.” 

Amara’s fingers slowly clenched, her knuckles turning a bit pale. So, Finnian and Liliana were close enough that he casually shared details like her being at home. 

Well, Liliana was carrying Finnian’s child, after all. With such an intimate bond, what couldn’t they share? But why did Liliana not even ask, “Could we meet up?” and instead issued a command? Did she think Amara

was a pushover? 

Amara’s lips curved slightly. Sure, she could be easy to push around, but only when she was powerless to fight. back. She wasn’t someone everyone could bully. 

“Ms. Porter, I don’t want to meet with you.” 

The other end of the line went silent for a few seconds, as if Liliana hadn’t expected such a response, momentarily caught off guard, and quickly thought of a counter. 

Then, Liliana laughed softly and said something. Amara froze for a moment, her fingers, which clutched the window sill, tensing up. 

Standing by the hallway window, with the phone pressed to her ear, she stayed silent for a few seconds before saying, “Alright, send me the address.” 

Amara ended the call, glanced at the message Liliana sent, left the Everly estate, and headed to a café on Galleria Lane.
