Chapter 11
Just as I was about to find a cab, a black car slowly pulled up in front of me. “Wyn?” The car window rolled down slowly.
1 looked up dizzily and saw a handsome face. I was startled. “Tree… Mr. Zook?”
Tristan got out of the car and opened the door to help me in.
It took me a while to gather my thoughts. “Mr. Zook, why are you still here?”
He answered me calmly while driving, “I had a feeling you might still be at the hospital, so I circled the area a few times. Turns out I was right”
He thoughtfully pulled out a napkin. “Did you just throw up?”
I took it from him and wiped my mouth, murmuring softly, “Yes, I felt a little dizzy. It might be from the concussion,”
Tristan frowned slightly. His gaze behind his glasses became cold and stern. Only then did I notice the back of my shirt was soaked with my sweat.
As Tristan drove, he comforted me gently, “It’s alright. Just rest well today. I’ll take you to the hospital for a check–up tomorrow.”
I looked up and accidentally locked eyes with him. His gaze was deep and gentle.
A strange flutter stirred in my chest, and I was flustered. I quickly looked down and thanked him. “Thank you… Mr. Zook.”
Tristan smiled. “Why don’t you call me ‘Tree‘ anymore?”
My face grew even redder. “That… That was just something silly from when we were kids… His voice was calm and soothing. “From now on, just call me Tristan. I’m an old friend of Charles’s, so his sister is like my sister too. You can treat me like a reliable elder brother.”
For some reason, Tristan’s words left me with a faint sense of disappointment.
The car moved smoothly through traffic. Tristan drove with such focus and ease, his fingers moving gracefully over the steering wheel. It was enjoyable just to look at him driving.
I stole a few glances at him but didn’t dare look for too long.
“Where are you headed, Wyn?” Tristan asked.
I sighed. “I want to find Chloe.”
He adjusted his glasses and frowned slightly. “Is she your friend?”
I nodded. “She’s my best friend.”
“Can she be trusted?” he asked.
I nodded again.
“Give me her address. I’ll take you there.”
I didn’t refuse. After all, he had already helped me once, so what was one more time?
I quickly tried calling Chloe, but all I got was a busy signal. When I tried again, the message said her phone was switched off.
Frustrated, 1 muttered, “Her phone might have died.”
Tristan exhaled lightly. “Is she the one who got into that fight at the mall with those other women?”
I nodded.
The situation had been chaotic at the time. I only knew that I had passed out from the pain and didn’t even know what happened to Chloe after that.
Suddenly, the realization hit me. “Wait, I need to find Chloe! I don’t know if she’s okay.”
Tristan held my panicked hand, shaking his head. “There’s no need to look for her. She’s probably at the police station giving a statement
I froze, then grew more anxious. “Then I have to go to the police station! Hurry, let’s go!”
I felt so anxious I was about to jump from my seat, but Tristan looked at me with an indescribable expression. There seemed to be a mixture of affection, helplessness, and a little bit of pain.
His gaze shifted back, and he pulled out his phone to make a call while comforting me, “Don’t worry. Let me make a call first. I’ll find out if she’s still there.”
When the phone call ended, Tristan turned to me and said, “I’ve asked around. Your friend finished giving her statement and has already gone home. Her phone might have died, so it’s
off now. But don’t worry, my contact said she’s fine.”
His calm and reassuring tone put me at ease.
