Chapter 44
“Don’t you want this anymore?” Jameson threatened to drop the opal bracelet.
I felt an invisible pain in my heart and slowly knelt down.
Xandra remarked sarcastically, “Oh, what a devoted granddaughter.”
Then, she turned to Jameson. “Jameson, to divorce you, she actually…”
Jameson abruptly snapped at her, “What are you even doing here? Get out!”
Xandra was startled and wanted to cry, but the sight of Jameson’s anger held her back. She looked at me suspiciously, scanning me from head to toe.
At that moment, I was completely numb to my surroundings. I knelt down slowly and made my way out of the room.
The soft wool carpet beneath my knees was worth two thousand dollars per square foot, yet it felt like I was kneeling on broken glass. The pain was undeniable. It really hurt.
However, I desperately wanted my grandma’s bracelet back. I longed for her belongings to be with me once again.
Tears streamed down my face, soaking into the carpet beneath me. No matter how hard I tried to wipe them away, they just wouldn’t stop.
Eventually, I gave up. I simply focused on making my way out on my knees. It felt like I had spent an eternity in that brief moment.
At last, I made my way out of the room.
I straightened up and gazed toward Jameson before extending my hand. “Can I have my grandma’s bracelet back now?”
Jameson’s voice shook. “I can’t believe you’re willing to kneel for it.”
I repeated, “Can I have my grandma’s bracelet back now?”
I longed for the only opal bracelet in his hand, especially since I had only salvaged the broken pieces of the other one. I couldn’t afford to lose this one too.
I regretted coming here today and wished that I had stolen them first. I was frustrated that I hadn’t thought of this sooner.
Jameson’s hands trembled as he looked at me, his expression suggesting I had done something terrible.

“Give it back to me,” I urged again.
I suddenly asked, “Will you return it to me if I slap myself? Please just give me back the

bracelet!”
Afterward, I gave myself a few sharp slaps.
Jameson’s voice became tense. “Do you really want your grandma’s bracelet back?”

I pleaded, “Jameson, please let me go. The bracelet from Grandma is mine, not yours. Please
return it to me.”
I collapsed and slapped myself continuously in despair. The bracelets were the only thing left that belonged to my grandma. She never took any photos in the countryside, and the only one she had was destroyed by Jameson.
My grandma passed away when I was just ten. By the time I was old enough to revisit the countryside, her home had been replaced by an unfamiliar building.
Everything she owned had been destroyed or discarded. The only items I had were a family photo taken before her illness and the opal bracelets she had gifted to me.
I repeatedly slapped myself until blood started to flow down.
Xandra hesitantly interrupted, “Just give it back to her. The bracelet isn’t worth much.”
I gazed up at him once more. “Hand it over to me. I promise I’ll never stand against you and Xandra again. I don’t love you anymore. I won’t love you anymore. You’re free, Jameson.”
Jameson looked even more upset by my words.
I was about to beg again when I heard Chloe’s scream echoing from downstairs. “Jameson, stop bullying Wyn! Let her go!”
I heard a loud bang and saw Chloe breaking a vase with a golf club. She shouted, “Jameson, if you’re really a man, release Wyn. If you refuse to set her free, I’ll destroy your fucking house.”
Then, the glass coffee table was shattered.
Xandra was shocked. “Quick! Call the police!”
The moment Jameson was distracted, I seized the opportunity and snatched the opal bracelet from his grasp before hastily making my way downstairs in panic. In my haste, I stumbled and tumbled down several steps.
Chloe rushed to my side and supported me. “Are you alright? Wyn, your face…”
